Study Finds Enterprise Cloud Focus Shifting From Adoption to Optimization

Cloudyn together with The Big Data Group has released the latest AWS customer optimization data, reinforcing the positive growth trend expected for the year ahead.

We set out to evaluate whether the projected 2013 ‘year of cloud optimization’ is on course and discovered that we are well into the public cloud adoption life cycle. In 2011 and 2012 the conversation centered around how and when to move to the cloud. Now it is all about companies looking for efficiencies and cost controls,” commented David Feinleib, Managing Director of The Big Data Group.

The study, based on over 450 selected AWS and Cloudyn customers, highlights a more mature approach to cloud deployments reflected by a deeper understanding of where inefficiencies lurk and how to optimize them. EC2 makes up for 62% of total AWS spend, with more than 50% of customers now using Reserved Instances in their deployment mix. However, On-Demand pricing remains the top choice for most, accounting for 71% of EC2 spend. Even for customers using reservations, there is still opportunity for further efficiency.

For example, Cloudyn’s Unused Reservation Detector has assisted customers in finding a startling 24% of unused reservations. These can be recycled by relocating matching On-Demand instances to the availability zone of the unused reservation.

There is also a shift away from large instance types to medium, where two medium instances cost the same as one large, but can produce 30% more output. However, with the low 8-9% utilization rates of the popular instance types, there is certainly more work to be done on the road to cloud optimization.

Cloudyn and The Big Data Group host a webinar on May 1, 2013 at 9:00 am PT focused on deployment efficiency.

Anticipating Law Enforement Move to the Cloud, Assocation Publishes Guide

Today, the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) released “Guiding Principles on Cloud Computing in Law Enforcement” at the Leveraging the Cloud for Law Enforcement Symposium held at the Newseum.  Developed in collaboration with key law enforcement subject matter experts from around the nation as well as experts from SafeGov.org, the principles establish clear and concise parameters and a path forward for the exploration of cloud-based computing solutions and services by law enforcement.  The IACP principles come after a newly released IACP/Ponemon Institute/SafeGov.org commissioned survey showed that over half of law enforcement agencies surveyed indicated that they had implemented, were planning or considering implementing cloud-based solutions in the next two years.

“Cloud computing represents an important shift in the way information resources are managed and deployed by law enforcement agencies,” said Bart R. Johnson , Executive Director, IACP. “Realizing the substantial potential benefits of cloud computing, however, requires that we recognize the sensitivity of law enforcement information, make every effort to maintain the security and availability of key systems and data, and that we work closely with industry to build solutions that meet the critical and evolving needs of law enforcement.”

The IACP principles focus on addressing some of the most tangible benefits that cloud computing offers, including cost savings, rapid deployment of critical resources, off-site storage and disaster recovery as well as meeting dynamic operational needs, while maintaining the security of systems and the proper use of data.

Key principles include:

  • FBI CJIS Security Policy Compliance – Services provided by a cloud service provider must comply with the requirements of the Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy.
  • Data Ownership – Law enforcement agencies should ensure that they retain ownership of all data.
  • Impermissibility of Data Mining – Law enforcement agencies should ensure that the cloud service provider does not mine or otherwise process or analyze data for any purpose not explicitly authorized by the law enforcement agency.
  • Confidentiality – The cloud service provider should ensure the confidentiality of law enforcement data it maintains on behalf of a law enforcement agency.

IACP will be working in the coming months to develop model policies associated with cloud computing through the IACP National Law Enforcement Policy Center. Model policies are expected to be released at the IACP Annual Conference, scheduled for October 19-23, 2013 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

LiveVox, CallMiner Webinar: Mitigating Compliance Risk with Speech Analytics, Centralized Call Recording

LiveVox, a  cloud contact center software provider today announced a joint webinar with CallMiner, a provider of cloud-based speech analytics. As contact centers prepare for a tightening regulatory environment, the market is responding with new technology, among the most promising of which is speech analytics. LiveVox and CallMiner have partnered to provide a simple, cost effective and short deployment path for speech analytics. Join executives from both organizations as they discuss technology approaches for an uncertain but assuredly tightening regulatory world.

Speech analytics, like all business analytics strategies, is rooted in data and dependent on its accessibility. In order to aggregate data and make it accessible for analysis, site-based networks have been required to purchase equipment that necessitates large capital expenditures, ongoing maintenance and, most handicapping, integrations into existing topology. For multi-site operations, the cost and complexity are compounded with each site. Cloud changes that. Data is centralized, secure and available for analysis. Speech analytics for multisite contact centers is a great example of a cloud solution to a heretofore complex problem.

“It would not surprise me if call recording data is held to the same standard as financial data in the accounts receivable management industry. Clients and regulators expect a complete record of all financial transactions and agent documentation on accounts. The agent/consumer audio is critical data that is often glaringly absent. LiveVox makes it very straightforward for multisite contact centers to centralize data in a secure environment. Speech analytics turns that data into risk management and operational improvement gold,” said John McNamara, Chief Marketing Officer of LiveVox.

Join CallMiner, LiveVox and Accounts Receivable Management, Inc. operations and technology executives as they share a path to bypass integration hurdles and implement speech analytics to improve operations and compliance across the enterprise. The event will be held at 2PM, EST, Wednesday, Oct. 17th. Reserve your spot today.

“Leveraging speech analytics to automatically analyze calls can significantly reduce the risks associated with non-compliance for collectors in accounts receivable management. Instead of spot checking recordings, 100% of captured audio can be analyzed to ensure agents are saying things they should, such as the mini-Miranda, and not saying things they shouldn’t. The end result is better customer experience and higher success in collections efforts,” said Scott Kendrick, Vice President of Marketing and Product Management at CallMiner.

WEBINAR TOPICS:

  • Utilizing Centralized Call Recording to address integration challenges
  • Leveraging 100% call recording to maximize speech analytics initiatives
  • Transforming voice data into usable analytics across all operations
  • Practical uses of speech analytics to improve compliance and operations
  • Maximizing the LiveVox and CallMiner partnership for rapid deployment
