MeriTalk Study: PaaS Could Help Reduce Federal IT Costs by $20.5B

Public-private partnership MeriTalk has released findings of a new study showing that platform-as-a-service models could help federal agencies reduce information technology costs by $20.5 billion.
The “PaaS or Play? Cloud’s Next Move” study was underwritten by Red Hat and found that PaaS services could help shorten the time it takes to develop applications by 31 percent, MeriTalk said Wednesday.
The potential cost savings represent 25 percent of the federal IT spending.
Ninety-five percent of feds say their agencies could reduce costs and bolster security infrastructures through PaaS migration and 71 percent are either mulling transitioning to that platform or are already leading towards that direction
