Arrow ECS EMEA Launches ArrowSphere Cloud Services Platform for IT Channel

Arrow Enterprise Computing Solutions, a business segment of Arrow Electronics Inc., today unveiled ArrowSphere, a cloud services aggregation and brokerage platform for the European solution provider community, system integrators, independent software vendors and service providers.

Through ArrowSphere, Arrow ECS is adding new growth opportunities for enterprise and midmarket business solutions for the channel. ArrowSphere will enable the Arrow ECS European channel network to resell aggregated cloud services, such as infrastructure-, platform-, storage- and software-as-a-service solutions, from industry leaders around the world. ArrowSphere brings new dimensions to cloud delivery by facilitating access to more than 60 leading-edge cloud services, in addition to adding flexibility with white-label webstores; increasing simplicity by centralizing billing and provisioning; and improving reliability through trusted single-sign-on solutions.

ArrowSphere is available to the IT community in the United Kingdom (beginning July 11) and will be available in September in Denmark, France, Germany and Spain, with other countries to follow.

Research and Markets: United States Information Technology Report Q2 2012

Research and Markets  has announced the addition of the “United States Information Technology Report Q2 2012″ report to their offering.

Business Monitor International’s United States Information Technology Report provides industry professionals and strategists, corporate analysts, information technology associations, government departments and regulatory bodies with independent forecasts and competitive intelligence on United States’s information technology industry.

USA IT spending is expected to reach US$558bn in 2012, up 5.5%, with BMI upwardly revising its forecast due to macroeconomic factors. Overall moderate growth in budgets is expected in 2012, but much depends on the economic situation. Despite a drive to cut expenses across government, many public sector organisations have appeared willing to continue to spend on IT. US businesses remain cautious, but there is pent-up demand from projects delayed as a result of the economic situation and cloud computing is expected to be increasingly important.

IT vendors will be concerned when it comes to the effect of the ongoing US federal deficit issue and the failure of politicians to agree a deficit reduction programme.The November 2012 elections will also create uncertainty about the trajectory of future government IT spending.

In 2012 there are expected to be many more contracts for provision of cloud services, following contracts awarded in 2011 by the cities of New York and Los Angeles, and the General Services Administration (GSA) of the federal government. The recession may have had a lasting effect on the IT market by encouraging consideration of cloud computing models such as SaaS.

US PC sales are forecast to report single-digit growth in 2012, after an annualised contraction in Q411, closing off a difficult year. The market slowdown was due in part to base effects, but a contributory factor was disappointing sales in the consumer segment, particularly notebooks. Meanwhile, a shortage of harddisk drives resulting from floods in Thailand is forecast to restrain market growth in H112, with faster growth likely in H212.


Online Tech Offers Data Security Scholarship to College Students

Online Tech is awarding two $1,000 scholarships to students interested in pursuing a career in information technology, computer sciences and healthcare information technology. The 2012 Data Security Scholarship will be available for the Fall semester of the 2012-2013 academic year.

Applicants should show an interest in cloud computing, data computing, disaster recovery, colocation and similar topics as it relates to the ever-changing fields of information technology and healthcare IT.

“Online Tech feels strongly about offering the scholarship in order to encourage tomorrow’s technology leaders to pursue higher education in their respective fields,” said April Sage, Online Tech’s Director of Healthcare Vertical and Marketing.

Scholarships awarded by Online Tech will be based on the applicant’s response to one of the following questions:

1. Healthcare: “What do you see as the best technology for improving healthcare and health IT?”

2. Mobile Security: “What do you see as the most serious mobile security threat facing consumers and/or companies and why?”

While the traditional essay submission is one option, Online Tech has also opened up the submissions to take the form of a short, 10-minute video or an infographic complete with a brief explanation.
