[session] #IoT Devices and #Cybersecurity | @ThingsExpo @Battelle #AI #M2M

Cybersecurity is a critical component of software development in many industries including medical devices. However, code is not always written to be robust or secure from the unknown or the unexpected. This gap can make medical devices susceptible to cybersecurity attacks ranging from compromised personal health information to life-sustaining treatment. In his session at @ThingsExpo, Clark Fortney, Software Engineer at Battelle, will discuss how programming oversight using key methods can increase the cybersecurity of medical device code to prevent weaknesses and vulnerabilities from being introduced into a device. These include automatic code scanners, runtime analysis, following coding standards, and binary analysis tools to monitor for unexpected behavior.

Immutable Servers in a #Serverless World | @DevOpsSummit #AI #DevOps

Snowflakes are beautiful, unique creations. But, let’s keep them in nature. They don’t belong in our server infrastructure. Snowflake servers, where every configuration is just a little different, can introduce unnecessary security vulnerabilities and complications. While common in IT infrastructure, in the DevOps realm, they are gradually becoming ancient history. At the recent All Day DevOps conference, Erlend Oftedal (@webtonull), with Blank and head of the OWASP Norway chapter, discussed the benefits of immutable infrastructure practices within serverless architectures. Erland walked us through the positive effects on security as well as offered insight on potential problems.

Cloud Computing Tips to Put Time (and Money) on Your Side | @CloudExpo #Cloud #APM #Monitoring

As your business grows, your technology requirements-and likely your physical footprint-will grow along with it. Improving infrastructure often means increased expenses due to additional physical data centers, expanded network capacity and improved server efficiency. Many organizations turn to the cloud as a less costly way to get better technology.
Whether you’ve already made the leap to the cloud or you’re still considering your options, you’re probably wondering how to control cloud-related costs and save money over the long haul. Progress Named «Bronze Sponsor» of @CloudExpo | @ProgressSW #DataLake

My team embarked on building a data lake for our sales and marketing data to better understand customer journeys. This required building a hybrid data pipeline to connect our cloud CRM with the new Hadoop Data Lake. One challenge is that IT was not in a position to provide support until we proved value and marketing did not have the experience, so we embarked on the journey ourselves within the product marketing team for our line of business within Progress.

How Cloud Makes Marketing Automation Powerful | @CloudExpo #Cloud #MachineLearning

While marketing automation by itself is extremely powerful and is mostly based in the cloud, the effectiveness of such strategies can be enhanced by leveraging the benefits that cloud computing offers.
Not too long ago, marketers had to inevitably choose between two options – keep marketing budgets low through marketing broadcasts, or spend more on highly targeted and personalized marketing strategies. Not surprisingly then, low margin products (like soaps or toothpastes, for examples) were marketed over TV while high margin enterprise software tools (like ERP software) had dedicated sales managers reaching out to prospective clients for business.

Internet Privacy 2017 | What You Need to Know | @CloudExpo #IoT #M2M #Cloud

There has never been a reasonable expectation of online privacy, and there never will be. Regardless of what you may have recently heard about joint resolutions or nullifications, nothing has changed. Internet Service Providers (ISPs) have always had the right to use your data as they see fit, within a few Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and Federal Communications Commission (FCC) parameters. This has not changed. And you have given FANG (Facebook, Amazon, Netflix, and Google) the right to use your data as they see fit (with a few privacy policy exceptions and within the few aforementioned FTC and FCC parameters). So regarding online privacy, for all practical purposes, absolutely nothing has changed.
