SYS-CON Events announced today that OpenStack will exhibit at SYS-CON’s 12th International Cloud Expo, which will take place on June 10–13, 2013, at the Javits Center in New York City, New York. OpenStack software controls large pools of compute, storage, and networking resources throughout a datacenter, all managed by a dashboard that gives administrators control while empowering their users to provision resources through a web interface.
OpenStack powers some of the most widely-used SaaS applications and eCommerce sites, the world’s largest public clouds, and Global 1000 enterprises alike, each of whom rely on OpenStack to run their businesses every day. The open source cloud platform controls pools of compute, storage and networking resources at massive scale, making them available via a self-service dashboard.

Jason Deck: The move to cloud is not specifically about money or time. The real value of cloud computing is in giving a business the platform to create real operational agility, so an organization can focus economic and human resources on the most valuable parts of its business. Cloud does save time and it does save money but, above all, it provides a company with agility to respond to its competitors and test out new ideas with minimal risk, all while being certain sensitive data are secure and compliant.
AWS GovCloud Meets FedRAMP Standard
Amazon Web Services said Tuesday that its GovCloud (US) in all US AWS regions has gotten an Agency Authority to Operate (ATO) from the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) under the Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP) requirements at the moderate-impact level.
FedRAMP is a US government-wide program that provides a standardized approach to security assessment, authorization and continuous monitoring for cloud products and services.
Since AWS has demonstrated it can meet FedRAMP’s security requirements, a wider range of government customers can use it to store, process and protect a diverse array of sensitive government data.

OpenStack New York Meetup Group Syncs Up with Cloud Expo New York

Dell Keeps a Toe in the OpenStack Camp
After trashing its public OpenStack cloud efforts Monday in favor of
reselling third-party widgetry – and reportedly canning workers in the 300-
man group according to TechCrunch – Dell folk who are left were anxious
to say that Dell is still in the private OpenStack game, pointing to another
press release put out Monday saying that Dell will enable Microsoft’s
Windows Server Hyper-V as a viable hypervisor on the OpenStack cloud
platform.

Dell Can’t Make Out Icahn’s Proposal
Dell’s board has again asked billionaire Carl Icahn and his buddy Southeastern Asset Management for more information about their proposal to take over the company.
Icahn asked Dell for more information after Dell posted its quarterly results last week and Dell flatly said “no.” It wants to scope out Icahn’s intentions and see if they’re better than founder Michael Dell’s.
