Managing Macs at Microsoft Ignite

The best part about being in Chicago for Microsoft Ignite wasn’t the deep dish—but the memories! (The deep dish definitely came close, though.) We had a blast talking with IT professionals and more about our business solutions, including Parallels Mac Management for Microsoft SCCM and Parallels 2X Remote Application Server: First, we hung out at […]

Blue Box «Bronze Sponsor» of @DevOpsSummit New York | @BlueBox [#Devops]

BlueBox bridge the chasm between development and infrastructure. Hosting providers are taking standardization and automation too far. For many app developers it does nothing but spawn mayhem and more work. They have to figure out how their creations live on a pre-fab infrastructure solution full of constraints. Operations-as-a-Service is what BlueBox does. BlueBox utilizes development tools such as OpenStack, EMC Razor, Opscode’s Chef and BlueBox’s proprietary tools give the power to do the unorthodox things which most hosting providers shun.

API Planet Driving the API Economy By @MedranoRoberto | @ThingsExpo [#IoT]

My previous two years’ blogs on predictions were mostly about rapid growth in the API Economy. Increases of adoption of API use, proliferation of API-enabled data connectivity, financial growth tied to API development – these and more like them became the headlining trends that have brought the API Economy to where it is now. Those predictions turned out to become reality, and they explain, to a large degree, why APIs are one of the most important business and tech stories of the past five years. Here I list my 2015 predictions for the API Planet driving the API Economy.
APIs have a long legacy, but it’s fair to say that in 2015, they are accepted as the single most critical ingredient of running a digital business. APIs and the data they manage are already doing incredible things in almost every corner of the business world and, for innovative companies, they provide the key functionality for an entire digital business. In 2015, we’ll start to see APIs move from being an interesting innovation story to becoming the key driver of business strategies.

Traditional and #Agile Distributed Environments | @DevOpsSummit [#DevOps #Docker]

Over the years, a variety of methodologies have emerged in order to overcome the challenges related to project constraints. The successful use of each methodology seems highly context-dependent. However, communication seems to be the common denominator of the many challenges that project management methodologies intend to resolve. In this respect, Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) can be viewed as powerful tools for managing projects.
Few research papers have focused on the way ICTs are used in software development environments. We posit that the use of ICTs in a plan-driven environment can enhance team members’ interactions and affect the organizational structure (the organization can lean toward a flat structure), thus, reducing the difference between “agile” and “plan-driven” environments.
Given this focus, the present research aims at examining the way ICTs are used by software development teams as well as their impact on project management methodologies.

Role of Policy in Hybrid Cloud By @DerekCollison | @CloudExpo [#Cloud]

Enterprises are turning to the hybrid cloud to drive greater scalability and cost-effectiveness. But enterprises should beware as the definition of “policy” varies wildly. Some say it’s the ability to control the resources apps’ use or where the apps run. Others view policy as governing the permissions and delivering security. Policy is all of that and more.
In his session at 16th Cloud Expo, Derek Collison, founder and CEO of Apcera, will: Explain what policy is; Show how policy should be architected in a hybrid cloud operating system; and Discuss the value policy can deliver.

Fujitsu, Intel collaborating on Internet of Things

Fujistu and Intel are mashing up their IoT tech

Fujistu and Intel are mashing up their IoT tech

Fujitsu and Intel announced a collaboration this week that will see the two jointly develop Internet of Things solutions, initially for manufacturing, retail and public sector clients.

The deal will see the two firms combine Fujitsu’s distributed service management and visualisation technology with Intel’s IoT communication gateway unification platform, which was unveiled at the tail end of last year and co-developed with a range of IT incumbents and SIs including Accenture, Capgemini, HCL, NTT Data, Tata Consultancy and Wipro.

Fujitsu said ensuring the distributed service technology is operating at peak performance some of the processing needs to be pushed down to the gateways themselves rather than concentrating them at the centre of the architecture, which could create bottlenecks.

The companies said they initially plan to target manufacturing, retail and the public sector, and already have a proof of concept set up in Shimane, Japan, which includes real-time visualisation of manufacturing operations.

Both are said to have plans to create more PoCs for retail and the public sector before the year is out.

Fujitsu looks to be striking a range of IoT-focused deals aimed at all levels of the stack. Last month Fujitsu and Microsoft announced a partnership focused on blending the former’s devices and IoT services for agriculture and manufacturing, powered by Windows software and Azure cloud services. And earlier this year Fujitsu announced plans to expand its two core datacentres in Japan in a bid to accelerate demand for its cloud and IoT services.

Citrix pitches Workspace Cloud for hybrid cloud service delivery

Citrix is aiming its solutions at hybrid cloud users

Citrix is aiming its solutions at hybrid cloud users

Citrix has unveiled Workspace Cloud, a set of cloud-based tools aimed at bridging the application deployment and management gap between on-premise and cloud infrastructure.

The solution, based on XenApp, XenMobile and XenDesktop technology, is basically an integrated and consolidated set of existing Citrix tools used to stream virtual apps to and manage mobile devices, and share content across devices and services – whether that data is located on-premise or in a cloud platform.

The company is pitching it as a “new control pane” for data across any device, and any infrastructure.

“Citrix Workspace Cloud is the future of on-demand IT. People want access to all their apps and data, and this no longer equates to a desktop. Citrix has created the fastest and easiest way to deploy new resources, simplified infrastructure management, and provided freedom of choice in selecting the right hosting and delivery model,” said Jesse Lipson, vice president and general manager, cloud services at Citrix.

Scott Ottaway, vice president at 451 Research said Citrix’s move to consolidate and integrate it offerings comes at a time when enterprises are struggling to bridge this gap between securing and managing content between a combination of on-premise and cloud platforms.

“When it comes to end-user computing, Enterprise IT is at a cross-roads with multiple challenges around device management complexity, data and application security, and requirements to deliver consumer-like, consistent experiences across any device,” Ottaway said.

“And IT leaders have more pressure than ever to achieve rapid time to market with new IT services, especially new mobile applications,” he said, adding that ensuring infrastructure agnosticism and reducing vendor lock-in will be essential for solutions vendors like Citrix moving forward.
