For executives, transforming an enterprise is always difficult, but when an enterprise is highly profitable – digital transformation is even harder. The temptation to follow the maxim, “Don’t fix what isn’t broken,” is just too compelling. «When you average 8% same-store sales [growth] for 35 years, it can breed a sense of, ‘Why do we need to change? Things are working,'» John Mackey, CEO of Whole Foods, said in a recent interview with The Wall Street Journal. Today, however, Whole Foods is struggling to compete with other lower priced grocery stores that have embraced organics and healthier foods. If you take your eye off the game for a second, consumers will change directions on you.

Is On-Premises Infrastructure Obsolete? | @CloudExpo #API #Cloud #Storage
Have you ever had the feeling of Silicon Valley envy? Think of a company like Airbnb experiencing exponential growth by making the most of AWS cloud computing. It would be nice if we could all just leave our legacy-laden on-premises data centers behind and go all-in on the cloud.
Traditional businesses are moving more and more workloads to the cloud, but there’s one important distinction to keep in mind when comparing yourself to companies that have avoided on-premises infrastructure.
[session] #DevOps for Core Enterprise Teams | @DevOpsSummit @CAinc #ContinuousTesting
Did you know that you can develop for mainframes in Java? Or that the testing and deployment can be automated across mobile to mainframe?
In his session at @DevOpsSummit at 20th Cloud Expo, Vaughn Marshall, Sr. Principal Product Owner at CA Technologies, will discuss and demo how increasingly teams are developing with agile methodologies using modern development environments and automating testing and deployments, mobile to mainframe.
API Testing Trends | @CloudExpo #IoT #API #DevOps #AI #DX #SmartCities
I’ve been designing, developing, and testing APIs for many years, and I consider myself fortunate to have witnessed just about every type of API initiative. Although many aspects of the API lifecycle are the same as they’ve always been, over the past couple of years I’ve noticed a number of distinct trends that are revolutionizing the ways these critical assets are conceived and evaluated. In this blog post, I’ll tell you about five noteworthy transformations that are exceptionally significant, and how they will likely impact your daily work responsibilities and longer-term career.
[session] The IoT Evolution | @ThingsExpo @InteractorTeam #IoT #SmartCities
Most technology leaders, contemporary and from the hardware era, are reshaping their businesses to do software in the hope of capturing value in IoT. Although IoT is relatively new in the market, it has already gone through many promotional terms such as IoE, IoX, SDX, Edge/Fog, Mist Compute, etc. Ultimately, irrespective of the name, it is about deriving value from independent software assets participating in an ecosystem as one comprehensive solution.
Measuring #DevOps Success | @DevOpsSummit #CD #DX #Agile #Serverless
When it comes to measuring the success of your DevOps rollout, it can be challenging to identify the right metrics that will provide intelligence while avoiding the trap of vanity metrics that indicate action—but not necessarily progress—towards the outcome you’re looking for.
In my experience, the most valuable metric of all is the lead time between when you make a commit in source control and when that change makes it to your consumers. Some very mature organizations have even been able to link this metric to validated learning or planned outcomes in production (i.e., user engagement, revenue, or even a pivot decision). This sort of full-cycle measurement closes the DevOps build-measure-learn loop and gives you unparalleled insight into the performance of your overall delivery metrics.
36 Shades of Hybrid IT | @CloudExpo #PaaS #SaaS #Cloud #DigitalTransformation
Everyone has heard of the 50 Shades of Grey. But do you know the “36 Shades of Hybrid IT”? These shades are a new way of describing the 36 point solutions across a hybrid IT environment. Enterprises looking to transform the way information technology is leveraged should evaluate their options by analyzing a transition across three specific high-level domains and their relevant sub-domains.

TechTarget: Cloud Storage Security at @CloudExpo NY | #SDN #DataCenter
As pervasive as cloud technology is — and as persuasive as the arguments are for using it — the cloud has its limits. Some companies will always have security concerns about storing data in the cloud and certain high-transaction applications will always be better suited for on-premises storage. Those statements were among the bottom-line takeaways delivered at Cloud Expo this week, a three day, bi-annual event focused on cloud technologies, adoption and associated challenges.
Docker Orchestrations Compared | @DevOpsSummit #DevOps #Docker #AI #DX
Containerized software is riding a wave of growth, according to latest RightScale survey. At Sematext we see this growth trend via our Docker monitoring adoption and via Sematext Docker Agent popularity on Docker Hub, where it crossed 1M+ pulls line. This rapid rise of containers now makes Docker the top DevOps tool among those included in RightScale survey. Overall Docker adoption surged to 35 percent, while Kubernetes adoption doubled, going from 7% in 2016 to 14% percent.
