NJVC® will lead efforts to provide secure cloud brokerage services to the Network Centric Operations Industry Consortium using its first-to-market CloudcuityTM Management Portal during a series of 2013 geospatial community cloud demonstrations that will be conducted on behalf of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA). NJVC’s partners are The Aerospace Corporation, The Boeing Company and Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC).

Enterprise Cloud Trends
2012 proved to be the year that’s been predicted for almost half a decade now: enterprises are turning in droves to cloud computing solutions. With the rapid growth and acceptance of robust open source solutions like Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization and others, the cloud is starting to make sense in that market sector.
Accordingly, here are some trends we think we’re likely to see over the next three to five years in the enterprise cloud space:
The growth of the hybrid cloud. According to one study about half of all of the new money enterprises spend on IT by 2015 will be on hybrid cloud technology. Another 40% of funds will be on pure cloud solutions. Third party integrators will increase support and offerings for hybrid solutions, because let’s face it: not everything you want exists in the public cloud.
Rackspace Buys More Cloud Developers’ Tools
Rackspace has acquired Exceptional Cloud Services in what it calls a strategic move to add to its toolset for developers deploying and managing applications in the open cloud.
The deal will bring it error tracking and Redis-as-a-Service solutions that are currently used by more than 50,000 apps developers.
Acquisition terms were not disclosed.
Rackspace said it’s getting “technology and expertise that will provide start-ups and cloud developers with the tools that help them deliver more reliable customer experiences and to bring the next generation of cloud-based apps to market faster.”
As part of the agreement, Rackspace gets Exceptional.io, which tracks errors in over 6,000 web applications in real-time so they can be fixed faster.

The Importance of Private Clouds
PrivateFew days ago I noticed a question on a LinkedIn group that made me thinking how important is the notion of private clouds. First, let’s briefly look at what is the difference between public, private and community clouds as well as hybrid clouds. Once again those are very well defined in NIST Definition of Cloud Computing but stated with simple words they are:
Private Cloud is cloud infrastructure that belong to single organization (enterprise, university, government organization etc.) that is hosted either on or off premise and is managed by the organization or third party contracted by the organization. The key point for private cloud is that the infrastructure is dedicated to this particular organization. Very often though you will notice that the term is used for cloud infrastructure that is hosted in the organization’s datacenter.

Cloud Conversations: AWS EBS, Glacier and S3 Overview | Part 1
Amazon Web Services (AWS) recently added EBS Optimized support for enhanced bandwidth EC2 instances (read more here). This industry trends and perspective cloud conversation is the first (looking at EBS) in a three part series companion to the AWS EBS optimized post found here. For those not familiar, Simple Storage Services (S3), Glacier and Elastic Block Storage (EBS) are part of the AWS cloud storage portfolio of services. There are several other storage and data related service for little data database (SQL and NoSql based) other offerings include compute, data management, application and networking for different needs shown in the following image.
OpenNebula 4.0 Beta Enterprise Cloud Management Platform Is Out

New AWS Service Pats the Hand of the Standoffish
For its latest trick Amazon Web Services has launched CloudHSM so users – pointedly the enterprise – can up their data security and meet compliance requirements by using dedicated, tamper-resistant Hardware Security Module (HSM) appliances within the AWS cloud.
The widgetry actually comes from SafeNet.
Amazon says the CloudHSM service lets customers securely generate, store and manage the cryptographic keys used for data encryption so they’re only accessible by the customer.
