Over the years, IT has had the ability to customize the heck out of applications. Even the industry enabled this addiction to feature creep. Vendors asked what new button, bell, and whistle customers wanted and then delivered what they could. Customization became a hallmark of IT trying to ultimately please the customer and meet their ever-changing requirements.
Custom configurations lead to the ability to do more and increase the value of the application/ service to the user. As the number of customizations increased, so did the level of complexity. Eventually, that very flexibility and customization starts to work against the value of the customizations themselves.
There is another nasty side effect with customization. It creates a sort of lock-in. Essentially, the further a solution is customized, the more unique it is and the harder it is to leverage alternative solutions. The customizations create such a unique solution that alternative solutions struggle to compete against. That is, unless they offer the exact same features and functionality…and customization options.

Peer 1 Hosting Supports SysAid with Its Growing Base of Cloud Customers
SysAid Technologies Ltd. on Wednesday announced it is using PEER 1 Hosting technologies within its new cloud-based data center to serve SysAid’s North American cloud customers. In addition to supporting SysAid’s existing cloud customers, its new data center, powered by PEER 1 Hosting technology, will allow for the expansion of SysAid’s regional customer base.
“We are excited to be providing solutions for SysAid to support their expansion, and help improve the service they provide to their North American customer base,” noted Robert Miggins, senior VP of business development at PEER 1 Hosting.

Dell on Thursday announced it is expanding the Dell Cloud Partner Program to include CenturyLink and its new CenturyLink Cloud, giving customers added choice and flexibility in their cloud computing pursuits. Through the Dell-CenturyLink alliance, Dell customers globally now have access to a slate of public cloud services, including Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) and Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS), which can be deployed across CenturyLink’s global data center footprint. In addition, customers gain the added benefit of having Dell serve as the single-source supplier through the Dell Cloud Partner Program, providing centralized solution integration, control and direct support.
VaultLogix Invests in Customers by Partnering with EMC
