The technologies from Google that use cloud computing like Gmail, Google App Engine, Google Docs, etc., provide users with a cloud-oriented way of saving their data. Google provides its Cloud services in highly secure manner and security is certainly an imperative design component of each and every Google’s cloud computing element like data storage, processing, server assignment and compartmentalization. The security controls which isolate the data during the processing in the Google’s cloud were developed along with the core technology right from the beginning. This security is certainly a key component. The Google’s security strategy provide the security controls at multiple levels of data access, transfer and storage. This security strategy of Google Includes the following components – Organizational security, access control, environmental & physical security, systems and software development & maintenance, Google corporate security policies, data asset management, personnel security, infrastructure security, business continuity and disaster recovery.

Who Are You, Cloud Broker?
Cloud brokers were recognized and described by Gartner analysts as the `Intermediary services that support fast cloud adoption`. From their customers’ perspectives cloud brokers are the system integrators (SI) or the `cloud enablers` that support fast adoption and maintenance of cloud technologies. For example, the independent software vendor (ISV) can benefit greatly from a cloud managed service provider (MSP) starting with integrating into the underlying cloud infrastructure, all the way up to the offering stack wrappers, such as service provisioning methodologies’ implementation. From the cloud provider’s perspective, cloud brokers are key customers, value-added resellers and aggregators of its cloud services.
In this article, I cover the perceptions, evolution and future of cloud brokerage in great detail.
Cloud Performance Replaces Security as Top Cloud Concern
This Week in Cloud Update
Starting in August, we will be changing the name of This Week in Cloud to TechViews in order to cover other trends in addition to cloud computing, such as mobility, big data, and DevOps. Along with the name change, we will be updating the layout and the email address from which the newsletter is sent. Please be sure to add TechViews@ca.com to your trusted email recipient list.

Debating DevOps: Culture, Change Could Prove Biggest Obstacle #TechViews
By Denise Dubie, CA Technologies
Technology won’t necessarily be the issue for organizations looking to adopt a DevOps methodology. That is, at least, according to a #TechViews tweetchat on the topic of DevOps hosted recently by @TrendsinTech.
“@AndiMann A4. 5 things are key challenges to #DevOps. In order: People. People. People. People. Oh, and people. 😉 #TechViews”
The biggest challenge organizations will face is cultural, as a change in how things are done internally could prove to be the biggest hurdle potential DevOps adopters will encounter, according to chat participants. Read the full article.

Oracle CAF targets dynamic cloud app development and deployment
Michael Azoff, Principal Analyst, Ovum, Software Solutions Group
Oracle Cloud Application Foundation (CAF) is an out-of-the-box, pre-integrated cloud infrastructure solution built around Oracle WebLogic Server (WLS). Release 12c of Oracle CAF is now generally available and is designed for building cloud-based, dynamic enterprise applications.
In addition to WLS 12c, the release comprises Oracle Coherence 12c, Oracle Tuxedo 12c, Oracle Traffic Director/Web Tier 12c, and Oracle Virtual Assembly Builder, along with Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c, and Oracle Development Tools 12c. The solution is available for both private and public cloud deployments, but Oracle Coherence 12c availability in Oracle Cloud (Oracle’s public cloud offering) is expected to be released later in 2013.
There are a host of new features in Oracle CAF, but of particular interest are features that address two essential aspects of dynamic cloud applications: the effects of disrupted connectivity, and the need for managing back-end enterprise data …
Cloud People: A Who’s Who of Cloud Computing
Behind every cloud or cloud-based solution, there are real people…A robust ecosystem of solutions providers has emerged around cloud computing. But who are the CEOs & CTOs behind those providers, who are the internal and external entrepreneurs driving companies involved in the Cloud, who are the leading developers, analysts, researchers, marketing professionals, authors…who, in short, are the people behind the cloud? This list of «Cloud People» will be updated regularly between now and November 5-8, 2012, when 11th Cloud Expo | Cloud Expo Silicon Valley opens its doors in the Santa Clara Convention Center, in the heart of California’s Silicon Valley.

Brocade’s Simon Pamplin: Digging deep into the future of SDN
With software defined networking (SDN), the network as we know it, along with the way businesses use computing processes, could be changed beyond all recognition.
And Brocade is at the very heart of that shift, being founder members of OpenFlow and OpenStack and pushing ahead with technologies that ensure its customers are SDN-ready.
Separating the data and control planes, SDN, as the name suggests, puts a layer of software between the components a network runs on and the network admin running them, leading in theory to a higher performance, more efficient networking process.
Yet there have been criticisms of SDN, ranging from accusations of overhype and lack of implementation, to lack of interoperability, to not being in the interest of larger vendors.
But as Simon Pamplin, Brocade enterprise pre-sales manager explains in a call to CloudTech, SDN is in an evolving, almost embryonic stage, meaning not everything’s going to …
SYS-CON.tv Interview: Automation in the Cloud
“We are a three and a half year-old company now, we’re in the third-generation of our product, and it was really a solution for people to deploy and manage more complex applications in clouds. We are now making a transition to more of an enterprise customer,” stated Paul Speciale, CMO of Appcara, in this SYS-CON.tv interview with Cloud Expo Conference Chair Jeremy Geelan at the 12th International Cloud Expo, held June 10–13, 2013, at the Javits Center in New York City.

The Paradox of Ephemeral Cloud Storage
The very name is kind of ridiculous, don’t you think? The word “ephemeral” means it can go away. It’s temporary. Fleeting, even. So why would I want to depend on storing something in a medium that can disappear without warning? And why am I forced to buy more of it when all I want is more CPUs or RAM?
Welcome to the paradox of ephemeral storage from cloud computing providers.
Ephemeral storage exists only because of how first-generation cloud providers chunk up servers. The business model is simple: they buy a physical server and try to sell as many virtual machines (VMs) as possible on top of that physical server. Since the VMs are trapped on physical machines in this approach, first-generation providers dictate cookie-cutter sizes that make that stacking game easier for themselves.
