SysAid Technologies Ltd. on Wednesday announced it is using PEER 1 Hosting technologies within its new cloud-based data center to serve SysAid’s North American cloud customers. In addition to supporting SysAid’s existing cloud customers, its new data center, powered by PEER 1 Hosting technology, will allow for the expansion of SysAid’s regional customer base.
“We are excited to be providing solutions for SysAid to support their expansion, and help improve the service they provide to their North American customer base,” noted Robert Miggins, senior VP of business development at PEER 1 Hosting.

Through the Dell-CenturyLink alliance, Dell customers globally now have access to a slate of public cloud services, including Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) and Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS), which can be deployed across CenturyLink’s global data center footprint. In addition, customers gain the added benefit of having Dell serve as the single-source supplier through the Dell Cloud Partner Program, providing centralized solution integration, control and direct support.

Microsoft launches Cloud OS Network, boosts hybrid options
Microsoft has announced the Cloud OS Network, a global group of over 25 cloud service providers who will deliver services on the Microsoft cloud platform.
The providers include the likes of CGI, Dimension Data and NTTX, and is a concerted play from Microsoft to enable more usage of its Windows Azure infrastructure as a service (IaaS) offering.
“This announcement represents important progress against our goals and strategy for Cloud OS,” Takeshi Numoto, Microsoft cloud and enterprise marketing corporate VP thundered in a blog post, adding: “More importantly, it is great news for enterprise customers across the globe.”
The partnering companies cover all four corners of the globe, from Capita in the UK to SingTel in Singapore and Revera in New Zealand, operating overall in more than 90 countries, with 425 data centres and over three million customers.

Your Cloud Availability: 98%, 99.99% or 99.9999%?
We discussed my belief that the nines (99.99…%) are more marketing than the real deal today – What do you think? The market and tools used to measure your uptime immature or do not really exist. The concept of availability in the cloud is determined by the level of responsibility and liability that the vendors have for their customers. These notions include the ability to monitor, proactively fix and maintain continuous communication with users, giving them clear and genuine visibility into what exactly is going on and when the system is expected to return to normal. It is also necessary, here, to define the concept of downtime. At a very basic level, it is when the system is not available. However, the more precise answer depends on the criticality of specific features and components of an application or service.
On that note, we are interested in hearing your point of view. First and foremost, it is essential to ask, what do you consider “downtime”? How do you approach the matter of downtime with your customers? How do you compensate, if at all? Maybe even before discussing compensation, let us ask how or if you measure downtime?
