Oracle to Buy Collective Intellect

Oracle has signed the papers to buy Collective Intellect, a Boulder, Colorado cloud-based analytics outfit that attempts to wring meaning from consumer conversations on social media platforms like Twitter, YouTube and Facebook.
The widgetry is supposed to divine customers’ intentions and interests, track trends, create better marketing campaigns, products and customer service and result in more targeted leads.
Collective Intellect claims CNBC, Viacom Media Networks, Hallmark, PepsiCo, Nestle Purina Pet Foods and General Mills as clients. Apparently it predicted that a major discount retailer wouldn’t meet its sales projections over Black Friday and Cyber Monday based on consumer purchasing intent for CNBC News.
Its semantic analytics engine is said to process tens of millions of conversations a day.

Virtualization, Cloud Computing and Big Data Are Made to Be Married

“I think there is opportunity for this market to go far beyond analytics,” observed Margaret Dawson, Symform’s Vice President of Marketing, in this exclusive Q&A with Cloud Expo Conference Chair Jeremy Geelan. “Again,” Dawson continued, “this goes back to how we can integrate these solutions with other related products/solutions to get a broader picture of what is happening across our business. I think an interesting intersection is Big Data and distributed compute processing.”
Cloud Computing Journal: Agree or disagree? – “While the IT savings aspect is compelling, the strongest benefit of cloud computing is how it enhances business agility.”
Margaret Dawson: I don’t think it’s one or the other or so black and white. For some companies, it is absolutely a budgetary impact issue; for others, it’s about being able to move to a new technology or increasing productivity quickly regardless of money saved or not. For others it’s about minimizing impact on the network. Depending on which cloud computing platform and solution the business is pursuing, the benefits can be wide ranging. That being said, I absolutely agree that business agility is a key benefit of cloud.

Clarizen Gets $12 Million for Social Project Collabortion

Image representing Clarizen as depicted in Cru...

Clarizen today announced that it has completed a $12 million Series E financing round led by Vintage Partners. Existing Clarizen shareholders Benchmark Capital, Carmel Ventures, DAG Ventures and Opus Capital also participated. The funding will support continued expansion, strategic partnerships, and product development designed to enhance the end user experience.

Clarizen makes organizations more effective by combining the tools needed to plan and execute work within a collaborative cloud-based environment that puts data, structure, and communications all in one place. Simple to use, yet robust, Clarizen’s project management suite eliminates the need for multiple disconnected planning and communication tools. Clarizen’s unified, collaborative environment gives team members and organizations better visibility into their work and provides the tools to get projects executed more quickly.

“Clarizen’s vision for today’s social workforce reflects our understanding that successful organizations need much more than task management or another way to communicate,” said Avinoam Nowogrodski, CEO and co-founder of Clarizen. “The workplace we enable is powerful, because Clarizen helps move information and communications out of silos, gives them structure, and makes this data actionable. This funding comes at an exciting point as we look to accelerate our investment in mobile access and global expansion.”

Clarizen recently introduced its native Android application to complement its existing iPhone app, providing users with real-time access to their tasks and projects from their mobile devices. In addition, the company introduced Clarizen Anywhere, a browser-application and Microsoft Outlook-based toolbar that provides users with immediate access to Clarizen without the need to login.
