Document Capture Technologies has launched a fax service that allows documents to be sent from a computer, tablet or smartphone with an Internet connection. SimpleScan now turns a smart phone or desktop scanner into a virtual fax machine that transmits digitized documents to any fax number.
“Eliminate the time, cost and hassle of faxing documents on the go,” said Karl Etzel, COO, Document Capture Technologies. “The inclusion of fax in SimpleScan Connect’s suite of document management services is one more way we enable small business productivity and efficiency, especially for those who send faxes infrequently.”

ProfitBricks Launches Cloud Servers with BIOS Access
For decades, on-premises installations meant application developers and systems administrators had access to this pre-boot sequence, whether it was for easing asset management, helping to recover from failure, or fine tuning systems for performance. The move to the cloud meant losing access to this important level of control, as cloud providers only offer administrative credentials to a server only once the operating system has loaded.
“Our virtual machines look and feel more like the bare metal, all instances include dedicated CPU cores, dedicated RAM and now BIOS-level access just like the physical servers that IT admins are used to, except they get all of the advantages of cloud computing from the price/performance leader,” said ProfitBricks Co-founder, CEO, and CTO Achim Weiss. “We want to give our customers as much control of their virtual data center as they would have in a traditional on-premises data center, but without the hassle of the capital expenditures and never-ending hardware maintenance. With this new feature we’re making cloud computing an even more attractive alternative for the enterprise.”
Enterprises Can Abandon Their On-Premises Hardware & Servers, Embrace BYOD
SecureAuth provides 2-Factor Access Control to all industries, extending to mobile, cloud, web, and network resources. 2FaaS accepts any identity and authenticates via SMS, Telephony, and E-mail One-time Passwords (OTPs), and our patent-pending, low-friction Device Fingerprinting to ensure secure access to web and mobile applications.
Best Open Cloud for IoT Solution @ThingsExpo 2014
Nominations for participating vendors will be accepted through Twitter at @ThingsExpo. The “Open Cloud Shoot-Out at @ThingsExpo New York,” in which leading cloud providers are expected to participate, will be held live on stage at the event. The Shootout will provide the vendors with an opportunity to demonstrate the features and capabilities of their products, with a particular focus on interoperability, scalability, security, and reliability in terms of development, deployment, and management.
The Enterprise File Sync & Share Solutions (EFSS) Bet on “Zero Knowledge”
AlephCloud has developed proprietary technology that enables secure collaboration without the need for a trusted third party. This “zero knowledge” model makes sure only authorized parties are privy to the information exchanged and stored, while nobody else has visibility, not even AlephCloud. We provide federated data privacy and policy controls that attach directly to the data to protect it while also ensuring ease of use and the flexibility for businesses to utilize a wide range of cloud service providers.
Attack Mitigation Network (AMN) Expands Cyber Attack Detection
Attack Mitigation Network (AMN) expands cyber attack detection coverage across all enterprise resources and automates the mitigation by selecting the most effective tools and locations – in the data center, at the perimeter or in the cloud to block the attacks. This revolutionary attack protection solution combines existing and emerging detection technologies such as traditional anomaly detection tools and future attack detection technologies such as SDN based security applications into a centralized monitoring and control system that works in sync for increased visibility and security across the Enterprise.
CipherCloud Delivers Data Privacy & Regulatory Compliance in the Cloud
“Edward Snowden’s leaks have heightened awareness of the risks in cloud. However, the word is still not viral yet that it’s now possible to apply Searchable Strong Encryption – that delivers AES -256- bit encryption, the highest commercially available level to protect data in cloud applications while preserving cloud functionality and usability.”
CipherCloud enables companies to accelerate their adoption of cloud applications while ensuring visibility and control of their data. CipherCloud delivers data privacy, regulatory compliance, and data residency in the Cloud through an open platform that provides comprehensive data discovery, protection (AES encryption, tokenization, data loss prevention, key management, and malware detection) and activity and anomaly monitoring services.
Cloud Biology: Enterprise Evolution Ramps Up
I’d love to take a poll (feel free to share your opinion in the comments section below) on whether software should be considered a living organism in the purist biological sense. Sure, software is made up of code instead of cells, and it may have trouble finding a home in the classic taxonomic rank of biology, but it’s difficult to find any other discrepancies between software, especially at the enterprise level, and other complex organisms.
One area that enterprise software achieves its deserved classification as a living organism is in its incredible ability to evolve over a relatively short time here on earth. While the evolution of other living creations occurs at the cellular level, completely invisible to the naked eye—enterprises hoping to survive another day are evolving at a rapid pace and are undergoing massive transformations.
IBM to Infuse Power Systems into SoftLayer
IBM on Monday announced that SoftLayer is integrating IBM Power Systems into their cloud infrastructure that is expected to deliver a level and breadth of services beyond what has traditionally been available over the cloud. IBM also announced new services and tools that will help organizations deploy hybrid and private cloud environments.
Taking advantage of IBM’s Power Systems line of servers built for Big Data demands, SoftLayer can help clients seeking cutting-edge technologies and tools to help them better capture, understand and leverage increasing volumes of data.
Additionally, the IBM Platform Computing Cloud Service will deliver a simplified management and a seamless user experience for hybrid cloud deployments.
IBM to Acquire Cloudant
IBM on Monday announced a definitive agreement to acquire Boston, MA-based Cloudant, Inc., a privately held database-as-a-service (DBaaS) provider that enables developers to easily and quickly create next generation mobile and web apps.
“IBM is leading the charge in helping its clients take advantage of big data, cloud and mobile,” said Sean Poulley, vice president, Databases & Data Warehousing, IBM. “Cloudant sits squarely at the nexus of these three key transformational areas and enables clients to rapidly deliver an entirely new level of innovative, engaging and data-rich apps to the marketplace.”
