{"id":42753,"date":"2022-02-04T08:51:26","date_gmt":"2022-02-04T08:51:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/icloud.pe\/blog\/?guid=910ed4ed4c90707a8680c5f3f3a91b3d"},"modified":"2022-02-04T08:51:26","modified_gmt":"2022-02-04T08:51:26","slug":"tiktok-euromoney-cisos-say-retraining-staff-now-critical-to-cloud-success","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/icloud.pe\/blog\/tiktok-euromoney-cisos-say-retraining-staff-now-critical-to-cloud-success\/","title":{"rendered":"TikTok, Euromoney CISOs say retraining staff now critical to cloud success"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"field field-name-field-author field-type-node-reference field-label-hidden\"><br \/>\n      <span class=\"field-item even\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cloudpro.co.uk\/authors\/connor-jones\">Connor Jones<\/a><\/span><br \/>\n  <\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"field field-name-field-published-date field-type-datetime field-label-hidden\">\n<div class=\"field-items\">\n<div class=\"field-item even\"><span class=\"date-display-single\">4 Feb, 2022<\/span><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"short-teaser\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cloudpro.co.uk\/\" title=\"\" class=\"combined-link\"><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"field field-name-body\">\n<p>Security heads at some of the world&#8217;s largest companies have revealed how they managed to stave off the cloud skills crunch by retraining staff to fill some of the most sought-after roles in the industry.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at cyber security firm Check Point\u2019s <span class=\"scayt-misspell-word\" data-scayt-word=\"CPX\" data-wsc-lang=\"en_GB\" data-wsc-id=\"kz85zjsvgd6eejy6r\">CPX<\/span> 360 conference this week, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.itpro.co.uk\/search\/ciso\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/www.itpro.co.uk\/search\/ciso\">CISO<\/a>s\u00a0of\u00a0media giant <a href=\"https:\/\/www.itpro.co.uk\/search\/tiktok\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/www.itpro.co.uk\/search\/tiktok\">TikTok<\/a>, and business and financial information company <span class=\"scayt-misspell-word\" data-scayt-word=\"Euromoney\" data-wsc-lang=\"en_GB\" data-wsc-id=\"kz85zjspp9i63t82n\">Euromoney<\/span> Institutional Investor, said they both resorted to <span class=\"scayt-misspell-word\" data-scayt-word=\"upskilling\" data-wsc-lang=\"en_GB\" data-wsc-id=\"kz85zjsi5t75n3493\">upskilling<\/span> existing staff in order to support their move to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.itpro.co.uk\/business-strategy\/careers-training\/357703\/the-best-cloud-computing-jobs-and-how-to-land-one\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/www.itpro.co.uk\/business-strategy\/careers-training\/357703\/the-best-cloud-computing-jobs-and-how-to-land-one\">cloud<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span data-cke-copybin-start=\"1\">\u200b<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Martyn Booth has held the CISO position at Euromoney for six years and said that during his time business objectives such as costs and efficiencies drove the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.itpro.co.uk\/cloud\/359979\/the-it-pro-podcast-whats-next-for-the-cloud\">cloud transition<\/a> initially, but the company found it difficult to\u00a0attract the right security talent.<\/p>\n<p>Now with 70% of Euromoney\u2019s business running in the cloud, he said specialised cloud security talent is needed and security-specific cloud skills are still scarce, years after his original search for talent.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Having access to people that knew what they were doing was always going to be a bit of a challenge,&#8221;\u00a0said Booth in a one-on-one interview with Check Point. &#8220;So, we&#8217;ve had to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.itpro.co.uk\/business-strategy\/careers-training\/357211\/security-staff-being-forced-to-upskill-in-their-own-time\">skill-up people quite quickly<\/a>, rather than just go to market because some of those people weren&#8217;t available and then use those people to protect those environments.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Non-technical people in the business typically think one security professional is full-purpose and can cover the full breadth of what\u2019s required but this isn\u2019t the case, he said.<\/p>\n<p>The key to this successful internal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.itpro.co.uk\/business-strategy\/34824\/the-it-pro-podcast-how-upskilling-can-improve-diversity\">upskilling program<\/a>, he added, was having hungry staff &#8211; people within the security side of the business that wanted to learn new skills.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We had some people that were interested in doing it, it suited me for them to do it, so it was a reciprocal arrangement, really &#8211; that they wanted to learn something new and it&#8217;s something that I needed them to know,&#8221;\u00a0said Booth.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;So, we took the decision to train people internally, and those people now will probably consider themselves, and I would consider them, as cloud security experts.
