{"id":42554,"date":"2021-11-02T16:37:17","date_gmt":"2021-11-02T16:37:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/icloud.pe\/blog\/?guid=c7d2b534d9b7ac77b32f74b73a361e93"},"modified":"2021-11-02T16:37:17","modified_gmt":"2021-11-02T16:37:17","slug":"microsoft-unveils-defender-for-business-at-ignite-2021","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/icloud.pe\/blog\/microsoft-unveils-defender-for-business-at-ignite-2021\/","title":{"rendered":"Microsoft unveils Defender for Business at Ignite 2021"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"field field-name-field-author field-type-node-reference field-label-hidden\"><br \/>\n      <span class=\"field-item even\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cloudpro.co.uk\/authors\/connor-jones\">Connor Jones<\/a><\/span><br \/>\n  <\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"field field-name-field-published-date field-type-datetime field-label-hidden\">\n<div class=\"field-items\">\n<div class=\"field-item even\"><span class=\"date-display-single\">2 Nov, 2021<\/span><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"short-teaser\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cloudpro.co.uk\/\" title=\"\" class=\"combined-link\"><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"field field-name-body\">\n<p>Microsoft has announced a brand-new security suite designed specifically for the threats faced by small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs).<\/p>\n<p>Microsoft Defender for Business was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/techcommunity.microsoft.com\/t5\/small-and-medium-business-blog\/introducing-microsoft-defender-for-business\/ba-p\/2898701?lightbox-message-images-2898701=322858iB57FB18E75A520B0\">announced<\/a>\u00a0at Microsoft Ignite 2021 today and it will aim to bring what Microsoft is calling its &#8220;enterprise-grade\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.itpro.co.uk\/security\/endpoint-security\/357421\/why-endpoint-security-should-be-your-first-line-of-defence\">endpoint security<\/a>&#8221; found in Microsoft Defender for Endpoint and optimising it for\u00a0companies with 300 employees or fewer.<\/p>\n<p><!--wysiwyg_see-related_plugin--><\/p>\n<p>\nEntering public preview later this month, it will be available as a standalone product for businesses to purchase at a rate of $3 (\u00a32.20) per user, or alternatively the new tools will be available as part of a Microsoft 365 Business Premium subscription.<\/p>\n<p>Specifically designed to protect businesses against malware and ransomware across Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android devices, Defender for Business will have the following features:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Threat and vulnerability management<\/strong>: allows customers to build a secure foundation by identifying and addressing software vulnerabilities and misconfigurations<\/li>\n<li><strong>Attack surface reduction<\/strong>: Using capabilities such as ransomware mitigation, application control,\u00a0web protection, network protection, network firewall, and attack surface reduction rules, SMBs&#8217; attack surface can shrink<\/li>\n<li><strong>Endpoint detection and response (EDR)<\/strong>: Behavioural-based detection and response alerts allowing SMBs\u00a0to identify persistent threats and remove them from their\u00a0environments<\/li>\n<li><strong>Automated investigation and remediation<\/strong>:\u00a0reduces alert volume and remediates threats. SMBs can automate Defender for Business to carry out tasks automatically, allowing them to prioritise the most important tasks<\/li>\n<li><strong>APIs and integration<\/strong>:<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>allows SMBs to automate workflows and integrate security data into their existing security platforms and reporting tools<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>IT managed service providers will also have the option to use Microsoft Defender for Business with Microsoft 365 Lighthouse, applying the product&#8217;s endpoint security production for multiple customers as they monitor security events with a multi-customer view.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSmall and medium businesses will be empowered to elevate their security by moving from traditional antivirus to next-gen protection, endpoint detection and response, and threat and vulnerability management &#8211; all while taking advantage of simplified setup and management,\u201d said Microsoft on the announcement.<\/p>\n<p>According to Microsoft&#8217;s own research, almost 60% of SMBs report\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.itpro.co.uk\/business-strategy\/smb\/360589\/how-to-fix-the-weak-link-in-cyber-security\">not feeling adequately equipped\u00a0<\/a>to contend with today\u2019s ever-widening cyber security threat landscape, citing insufficient resources and a lack of specialised security skills as the reason.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Microsoft said Defender for Business requires no specialist knowledge in order to install and manage effectively. It has a wizard-driven set-up and it will\u00a0recommend security policies out of the box to expedite the process.<\/p>\n<p>Among Microsoft&#8217;s myriad Ignite 2021\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.itpro.co.uk\/business-strategy\/collaboration\/361423\/mesh-for-microsoft-teams-metaverse-official\">announcements<\/a>, on the security side of things Microsoft Defender for Cloud Apps\u00a0(formerly Microsoft Cloud App Security) has added a new<br \/>\napplication governance capability which is generally available as of today. It aims to help identify and alert the customer to risky behaviour across data, users, and applications.<\/p>\n<p>Defender for Cloud also received an update to multi-cloud environment control.
