Microsoft<\/a>\u00a0has confirmed that\u00a0Windows 11<\/a>\u00a0will be released on 5 October, with all eligible devices to be offered the free\u00a0upgrade<\/a>\u00a0by mid-2022.<\/p>\n

From 5 October, Microsoft will start rolling out Windows 11 to eligible\u00a0Windows 10<\/a>\u00a0PCs, while PCs that come preloaded with Windows 11 will start to become available for purchase. The update is set to be rolled out in a phased approach, which means that new eligible devices will be offered the upgrade first.\u00a0<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\nFor UK customers, the new update will be available “beginning this holiday season”.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe upgrade will then roll out over time to in-market devices based on intelligence models that consider\u00a0hardware<\/a>\u00a0eligibility, reliability metrics, age of device and other factors that impact the upgrade experience,\u201d the company stated.<\/p>\n

Microsoft expects all eligible devices to be offered the free upgrade to Windows 11 by mid-2022. Users that have a Windows 10 PC that\u2019s eligible for the update will be notified by\u00a0Windows Update<\/a>\u00a0when it’s available. Alternatively, users can check to see if it is ready by going to Settings>Windows Update and select \u201cCheck for updates\u201d.<\/p>\n

New features in Windows 11 include \u201cStart\u201d, which uses the power of the\u00a0cloud<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Microsoft 365<\/a>\u00a0to show users their recent files, no matter what device they were viewing them on. Chat from\u00a0Microsoft Teams<\/a>\u00a0is integrated into the taskbar, a new Microsoft Store will be available, and Snap Layouts, Snap Groups and Desktops will allow users to multitask and optimise their screen space.<\/p>\n

One feature that won\u2019t be included at launch is the inclusion of\u00a0Android<\/a>\u00a0apps support in Windows 11 and the Microsoft Store, through the company\u2019s collaboration with Amazon and Intel. Microsoft said\u00a0that it will start with a preview for this feature for Windows Insiders \u201cover the coming months\u201d.<\/p>\n

Microsoft recently provided more details<\/a>\u00a0on the reliability of computers that could update to Windows 11, saying that those systems were more reliable in use.<\/p>\n

\u201cThose that did not meet the minimum system requirements had 52% more kernel mode crashes (blue screens) than those that did meet the requirements,\u201d Microsoft said. \u201cAdditionally, app hangs are 17% more likely, and for first-party apps, we see 43% more crashes on unsupported hardware.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
