{"id":42135,"date":"2021-05-26T06:35:13","date_gmt":"2021-05-26T06:35:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/icloud.pe\/blog\/?guid=2b345d9bce017d562264f6fd3d990d24"},"modified":"2021-05-26T06:35:13","modified_gmt":"2021-05-26T06:35:13","slug":"microsoft-adds-more-services-to-its-azure-arc-multi-cloud-management-stack","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/icloud.pe\/blog\/microsoft-adds-more-services-to-its-azure-arc-multi-cloud-management-stack\/","title":{"rendered":"Microsoft adds more services to its Azure Arc multi-cloud management stack"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"field field-name-field-author field-type-node-reference field-label-hidden\"><br \/>\n      <span class=\"field-item even\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cloudpro.co.uk\/authors\/rene-millman\">Rene Millman<\/a><\/span><br \/>\n  <\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"field field-name-field-published-date field-type-datetime field-label-hidden\">\n<div class=\"field-items\">\n<div class=\"field-item even\"><span class=\"date-display-single\">26 May, 2021<\/span><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"short-teaser\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cloudpro.co.uk\/\" title=\"\" class=\"combined-link\"><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"field field-name-body\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.itpro.com\/microsoft\/\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/www.itpro.com\/microsoft\/\">Microsoft<\/a> has launched a set of new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.itpro.com\/microsoft-azure\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/www.itpro.com\/microsoft-azure\">Azure<\/a> services that <span class=\"scayt-misspell-word\" data-scayt-word=\"organizations\" data-wsc-lang=\"en_GB\" data-wsc-id=\"kp52wy1nl59xa8l87\">organisations<\/span> can now run on any <span class=\"scayt-misspell-word\" data-scayt-word=\"CNCF\" data-wsc-lang=\"en_GB\" data-wsc-id=\"kp52wy1nhotelt7co\">CNCF<\/span>-conformant <span class=\"scayt-misspell-word\" data-scayt-word=\"Kubernetes\" data-wsc-lang=\"en_GB\" data-wsc-id=\"kp52wy1lf97r6h5ry\">Kubernetes<\/span> cluster using its Azure Arc multiple-<a href=\"https:\/\/www.itpro.com\/cloud-computing\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/www.itpro.com\/cloud-computing\">cloud<\/a> service.<\/p>\n<p>At its virtual Build 2021 event, Microsoft said its cloud services, such as Azure App Service, Functions, Logic Apps, <span class=\"scayt-misspell-word\" data-scayt-word=\"API\" data-wsc-lang=\"en_GB\" data-wsc-id=\"kp52wy4kpx5jvt783\">API<\/span> Management, and Event Grid,\u00a0would now all be Arc-enabled (in preview form). Azure Arc, launched in 2019, is Microsoft&#8217;s tool to help firms manage <span class=\"scayt-misspell-word\" data-scayt-word=\"Kubernetes\" data-wsc-lang=\"en_GB\" data-wsc-id=\"kp52wy7ipamiux1o8\">Kubernetes<\/span> container clusters across clouds and on-premises data <span class=\"scayt-misspell-word\" data-scayt-word=\"centers\" data-wsc-lang=\"en_GB\" data-wsc-id=\"kp52wy7htctmdxpcc\">centres<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>The firm said that these Azure application services can be deployed to any Cloud Native Computing Foundation (<span class=\"scayt-misspell-word\" data-scayt-word=\"CNCF\" data-wsc-lang=\"en_GB\" data-wsc-id=\"kp52wyaeldq310gxo\">CNCF<\/span>)-conformant <span class=\"scayt-misspell-word\" data-scayt-word=\"Kubernetes\" data-wsc-lang=\"en_GB\" data-wsc-id=\"kp52wyadbub1l5qek\">Kubernetes<\/span> cluster connected via Azure Arc.<\/p>\n<p>The services now enabled includes <a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/services\/app-service\/\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/services\/app-service\/\">Azure App Service<\/a>\u00a0for creating and managing web apps and <span class=\"scayt-misspell-word\" data-scayt-word=\"APIs\" data-wsc-lang=\"en_GB\" data-wsc-id=\"kp52wydd6r9jw9apb\">APIs<\/span> with a fully managed platform and features like <span class=\"scayt-misspell-word\" data-scayt-word=\"autoscaling\" data-wsc-lang=\"en_GB\" data-wsc-id=\"kp52wydd53gx6vkc1\">autoscaling<\/span>, deployment slots, and integrated web authentication; <a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/services\/functions\/\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/services\/functions\/\">Azure Functions<\/a>\u00a0for event-driven programming with <span class=\"scayt-misspell-word\" data-scayt-word=\"autoscaling\" data-wsc-lang=\"en_GB\" data-wsc-id=\"kp52wyddm9d3plxpe\">autoscaling<\/span>, and triggers and bindings to integrate with other Azure services;\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/services\/logic-apps\/\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/services\/logic-apps\/\">Azure Logic Apps<\/a>\u00a0for creating automated workflows for integrating apps, data, services, and <span class=\"scayt-misspell-word\" data-scayt-word=\"backend\" data-wsc-lang=\"en_GB\" data-wsc-id=\"kp52wydcp9qoxf9ls\">backend<\/span> systems, as well as <a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/services\/api-management\/\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/services\/api-management\/\">Azure API Management<\/a>\u00a0for dealing with internal and external <span class=\"scayt-misspell-word\" data-scayt-word=\"APIs\" data-wsc-lang=\"en_GB\" data-wsc-id=\"kp52wydbi6nzlryif\">APIs<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The app services are now Azure Arc-enabled, which means customers can deploy Web Apps, Functions, <span class=\"scayt-misspell-word\" data-scayt-word=\"API\" data-wsc-lang=\"en_GB\" data-wsc-id=\"kp52wyp4s6miv54cr\">API<\/span> gateways, Logic Apps and Event Grid services on pre-provisioned <span class=\"scayt-misspell-word\" data-scayt-word=\"Kubernetes\" data-wsc-lang=\"en_GB\" data-wsc-id=\"kp52wyp3kme1se8km\">Kubernetes<\/span> clusters,&#8221; the firm said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This takes advantage of features including deployment slots for A\/B testing, storage queue triggers, and out-of-box connectors from the app services, regardless of run location. With these portable turnkey services, customers can save time building apps, then manage them consistently across hybrid and multi-cloud environments using Azure Arc.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Microsoft added that with this capability now in preview, customers don&#8217;t have to choose between the productivity of platform as a service (<span class=\"scayt-misspell-word\" data-scayt-word=\"PaaS\" data-wsc-lang=\"en_GB\" data-wsc-id=\"kp52wys7w6sud537x\">PaaS<\/span>) and the control of <span class=\"scayt-misspell-word\" data-scayt-word=\"Kubernetes\" data-wsc-lang=\"en_GB\" data-wsc-id=\"kp52wys6mze37sk9m\">Kubernetes<\/span>, as the same app services can run with either model.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"scayt-misspell-word\" data-scayt-word=\"Gabe\" data-wsc-lang=\"en_GB\" data-wsc-id=\"kp52wygblwrl60a92\">Gabe<\/span> <span class=\"scayt-misspell-word\" data-scayt-word=\"Monroy\" data-wsc-lang=\"en_GB\" data-wsc-id=\"kp52wyga12i8tlow3\">Monroy<\/span>, vice president for Azure Developer Experience at Microsoft, said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/blog\/build-cloudnative-applications-that-run-anywhere\/\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/blog\/build-cloudnative-applications-that-run-anywhere\/\">blog post<\/a> that one of the challenges he heard from customers was that despite the enhanced control and ecosystem benefits of <span class=\"scayt-misspell-word\" data-scayt-word=\"Kubernetes\" data-wsc-lang=\"en_GB\" data-wsc-id=\"kp52wygaloze3h0o9\">Kubernetes<\/span>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.itpro.com\/enterprise-applications\/31654\/what-is-kubernetes\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/www.itpro.com\/enterprise-applications\/31654\/what-is-kubernetes\">Kubernetes<\/a> is difficult for developers to use directly.
