The outage affected global airlines\u00a0including\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/VirginAustralia\/status\/1395640535512059905\"  data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/VirginAustralia\/status\/1395640535512059905\">Virgin Australia<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JetBlue\/status\/1395762802871123970\"  data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JetBlue\/status\/1395762802871123970\">Jet Blue<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AlaskaAir\/status\/1395667643714113540?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1395667643714113540%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fsimpleflying.com%2Famerican-airlines-check-in-outage%2F\"  data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AlaskaAir\/status\/1395667643714113540?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1395667643714113540%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fsimpleflying.com%2Famerican-airlines-check-in-outage%2F\">Alaskan Airlines<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JFKairport\/status\/1395671059832127489\"  data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JFKairport\/status\/1395671059832127489\">American Airlines<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for Virgin Australia confirmed the company had experienced an outage with the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.itpro.co.uk\/business-operations\/sales-crm\/357657\/sabre-develops-smart-scalable-retail-engine-for-travel\"  data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/www.itpro.co.uk\/business-operations\/sales-crm\/357657\/sabre-develops-smart-scalable-retail-engine-for-travel\">Sabre booking system<\/a>\u00a0which had resulted in over 30 flights cancelled on Friday and a &#8220;small number of flights&#8221; cancelled or delayed on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Tweets from the airline suggested that the outage affecting Virgin Australia lasted for around three hours.<\/p>\n<p>A\u00a0<span class=\"scayt-misspell-word\" data-scayt-word=\"JetBlue\" data-wsc-lang=\"en_GB\" data-wsc-id=\"kp2nd39458hu5rex7\">JetBlue<\/span>\u00a0spokesperson\u00a0told\u00a0<em>IT\u00a0Pro<\/em>: &#8220;<span class=\"scayt-misspell-word\" data-scayt-word=\"JetBlue\" data-wsc-lang=\"en_GB\" data-wsc-id=\"kp2nd390xp8qrgobm\">JetBlue<\/span>\u00a0systems are back online following a Sabre outage impacting multiple airlines. We apologise for any inconvenience this caused.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, when\u00a0<em>IT Pro\u00a0<\/em>asked the company for comment, Sabre blamed the outage on Dell\u00a0<span class=\"scayt-misspell-word\" data-scayt-word=\"EMC\" data-wsc-lang=\"en_GB\" data-wsc-id=\"kp2nd3c3u30b55ww7\">EMC<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Dell\/<span class=\"scayt-misspell-word\" data-scayt-word=\"EMC\" data-wsc-lang=\"en_GB\" data-wsc-id=\"kp2nd3f3fdcu6ow49\">EMC<\/span>\u00a0has confirmed it experienced a hardware redundancy failure that impacted Sabre&#8217;s system, including\u00a0<span class=\"scayt-misspell-word\" data-scayt-word=\"PSS\" data-wsc-lang=\"en_GB\" data-wsc-id=\"kp2nd3f2u9gk8x64f\">PSS<\/span>\u00a0and check-in. The issue has been resolved. Dell\/<span class=\"scayt-misspell-word\" data-scayt-word=\"EMC\" data-wsc-lang=\"en_GB\" data-wsc-id=\"kp2nd3i2cpmef52p6\">EMC<\/span>\u00a0is working to understand why the failure occurred,&#8221; said the spokesperson.<\/p>\n<p><em>IT Pro<\/em>\u00a0has contacted Dell for comment.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.itpro.co.uk\/security\/cyber-attacks\/359642\/air-india-cyber-attack-exposes-45-million-customers-data\"  data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/www.itpro.co.uk\/security\/cyber-attacks\/359642\/air-india-cyber-attack-exposes-45-million-customers-data\">Air India stated that a cyber attack which took place three months<\/a>\u00a0ago on the systems of its data processor has exposed information belonging to around 4.5 million of its customers worldwide.<\/p>\n<p>The breach which affected\u00a0<span class=\"scayt-misspell-word\" data-scayt-word=\"SITA\" data-wsc-lang=\"en_GB\" data-wsc-id=\"kp2nd3lkuoz1c7qzb\">SITA<\/span>, the data processor, involved personal data registered over a ten year period which exposed information such as passport information, date of birth and credit card data.
