Zoom has announced a $100 million (\u00a371.5M) venture fund that aims to \u201cstimulate growth\u201d of the\u00a0video conferencing<\/a>\u00a0platform\u2019s ecosystem of Zoom Apps, as well as their integrations, developer platform, and\u00a0hardware<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The newly launched fund will invest in\u00a0developer<\/a>\u00a0partners with \u201can early market traction\u201d who propose viable products with the potential to benefit the experience of Zoom users.<\/p>\n

Chosen companies will be awarded initial investments of between $250,000 (\u00a3179,000) and $2.5 million (\u00a31.8 million)\u00a0to develop the new solutions to be used by Zoom customers.<\/p>\n

\nThe company announced that, at the time being, \u201cdozens\u201d of Zoom Apps are being developed and are \u201can important component in building the future of video\u00a0communications<\/a>\u201d.<\/p>\n

Although the announcement can be seen as an effort by the company\u00a0to remain relevant in the face of the post-pandemic\u00a0return to the office<\/a>, Zoom founder and CEO Eric Yuan hinted that the fund was inspired by his own experience in launching the video conferencing platform back in 2011.<\/p>\n

\u201cWithout the support of early investors, Zoom would not be what it is today. What I\u2019ve learned over the past year is that we need to keep meetings productive and fun. My hope is that the Zoom Apps Fund will help our customers meet happier and collaborate even more seamlessly, and at the same time help entrepreneurs build new businesses as our platform evolves,\u201d he\u00a0said<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The announcement of the fund comes less than a month after the company launched new tools for developers to help them build video-based\u00a0applications<\/a>\u00a0and websites with fully customisable, native user interfaces, called\u00a0Video SDK<\/a>. Developers can also\u00a0access\u00a0APIs<\/a>, webhooks,\u00a0chatbots<\/a>, and even an analytical platform that provide real-time\u00a0data<\/a>\u00a0on their builds, such as customer engagement and performance figures.<\/p>\n

As one of the\u00a0biggest beneficiaries of the pandemic<\/a>, Zoom experienced a\u00a0355%<\/a>\u00a0rise in adoption in the second quarter of 2020 as consumers and businesses adopted video conferencing platform\u00a0following the mass shift to remote working. However, the\u00a0gradual reopening<\/a>\u00a0of working spaces and offices means that Zoom might be cast away in favour of traditional face-to-face meetings.<\/p>\n
