Enterprise software is expected to grow by 8.8% in 2021 as\u00a0businesses<\/a>\u00a0seek to expand and improve\u00a0remote work<\/a>\u00a0environments, according to new predictions from Gartner.<\/p>\n

Global IT spending fell by 3.2% in 2020 as a result of the COVID pandemic, but\u00a0the research firm expects<\/a>\u00a0spending this year to rise by 6.2% to a total of $3.9 trillion (\u00a32.85 trillion)\u00a0before surpassing\u00a0the $4 trillion (\u00a32.93 trillion) mark in 2022.<\/p>\n

\nEnterprise software is expected to\u00a0witness the strongest rebound\u00a0followed by the devices segment,\u00a0which is expected to see growth of\u00a08% in 2021. Garner expects spending on\u00a0data centre<\/a>\u00a0systems to increase by\u00a06.2% during the 12-month period, while IT and\u00a0communications<\/a>\u00a0services\u00a0are predicted to grow by 6% and 4% respectively.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Commenting on the predictions, Gartner distinguished research VP John-David Lovelock said that\u00a0CIOs<\/a>\u00a0\u201chave a balancing act to perform in 2021 \u2014 saving cash and expanding IT\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith the economy returning to a level of certainty, companies are investing in IT in a manner consistent with their expectations for growth, not their current revenue levels. Digital business, led by projects with a short Time to Value, will get more money and board-level attention going into 2021,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Gartner also projects that, through 2024, businesses will be forced to accelerate their\u00a0digital transformation<\/a>\u00a0plans by at least five years in order to survive in a post-COVID world, where remote work and digital touchpoints will be the norm.<\/p>\n

\u201cDigital business represents the dominant technology trend in late 2020 and early 2021 with areas such as\u00a0cloud computing<\/a>, core business applications,\u00a0security<\/a>\u00a0and customer experience at the forefront,\u201d said Lovelock.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cOptimisation initiatives, such as hyperautomation, will continue and the focus of these projects will remain on returning cash and eliminating work from processes, not just tasks.\u201d<\/p>\n

Moreover, non-COVID-19 geopolitical factors are expected to inhibit recovery for some regions, such as Brexit for the UK and the difficult China-US relations. <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
