BT<\/a>\u00a0has rolled out Facebook Workplace\u00a0to enable\u00a0enterprise-wide internal communications for\u00a080,000 employees, as businesses put emphasis on new ways of interaction due to lockdown restrictions.<\/p>\n

The telecoms giant told\u00a0IT Pro<\/em>\u00a0that it previously used\u00a0various social networking platforms, including Microsoft’s Yammer,\u00a0before deciding to unify and\u00a0simplify its communications channels. It started\u00a0the deployment of Workplace in July 2019.<\/p>\n

Facebook Workplace, which was\u00a0launched in 2016<\/a>,\u00a0now connects 80% of BT employees through chats, Groups, and video across all parts of the organisation in 54 countries.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\nThe\u00a0B2B communications<\/a>\u00a0platform is being used to connect BT employees, including external employees at Openreach and engineers, enabling them to stay informed while working in the field.\u00a0<\/p>\n

BT\u2019s director of Internal Communications Helen Willett said that \u201cWorkplace was a simple choice for BT\u201d, describing it as \u201cmobile<\/a>-friendly, easy to use and intuitive\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut more than that, it\u2019s culture-enhancing. Leaders can talk to their teams in a matter of seconds and the peer-to-peer benefits include enabling a sense of belonging, instant access to news and a way to solve problems\u00a0collaboratively<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“Perhaps most importantly, having Workplace has made it so much easier for us to stick to our principle of \u2018inside out\u2019 – letting our colleagues know what\u2019s happening, increasing trust and, in turn, advocacy. Sometimes we have a matter of minutes to reach our people – Workplace allows us to do that, and to do it well,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

So far, BT has seen an avalanche of involvement from its employees, with three million reactions and a further 970,000 comments on Workplace.<\/p>\n

BT CEO Philip Jansen said that the platform is allowing the company to aim for a \u201cfast-paced, inclusive and empowering\u201d future.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve seen many benefits including being able to share news instantly, gather feedback on subjects that our people care about, and enabling more authentic leadership communications,\u201d he said, adding that the platform has also \u201cstrengthened\u201d the company\u2019s communities across BT and Openreach.<\/p>\n
