{"id":41187,"date":"2020-08-06T11:09:15","date_gmt":"2020-08-06T11:09:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/icloud.pe\/blog\/?guid=2f7910a1b57e629421046b0f0ccc0d11"},"modified":"2020-08-06T11:09:15","modified_gmt":"2020-08-06T11:09:15","slug":"twitter-hackers-virtual-trial-zoom-bombed-after-id-leak","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/icloud.pe\/blog\/twitter-hackers-virtual-trial-zoom-bombed-after-id-leak\/","title":{"rendered":"Twitter hacker&#8217;s virtual trial &#8216;zoom bombed&#8217; after ID leak"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"field field-name-field-author field-type-node-reference field-label-hidden\"><br \/>\n      <span class=\"field-item even\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cloudpro.co.uk\/authors\/bobby-hellard\">Bobby Hellard<\/a><\/span><br \/>\n  <\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"field field-name-field-published-date field-type-datetime field-label-hidden\">\n<div class=\"field-items\">\n<div class=\"field-item even\"><span class=\"date-display-single\">6 Aug, 2020<\/span><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"short-teaser\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cloudpro.co.uk\/\" title=\"\" class=\"combined-link\"><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"field field-name-body\">\n<p>The virtual hearing for the trial against a teenager\u00a0accused of July&#8217;s mass Twitter hack was cut short on Wednesday after the meeting was hijacked by members of the public.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors were in the midst of deliberations over the alleged involvement of a 17-year-old teenager from Florida\u00a0when their conference call was hijacked by a series of interruptions, including 15 seconds of a porographic clip, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/krebsonsecurity.com\/2020\/08\/porn-clip-disrupts-virtual-court-hearing-for-alleged-twitter-hacker\/\"  data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/krebsonsecurity.com\/2020\/08\/porn-clip-disrupts-virtual-court-hearing-for-alleged-twitter-hacker\/\"><em>Krebsonsecurity<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The teenager\u00a0is thought to have orchestrated the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.itpro.co.uk\/security\/hacking\/356633\/uk-teen-charged-twitter-bitcoin-hack\" >15 July hack on Twitter<\/a>, which led to the compromise of a number of high profile accounts.\u00a0His bond hearing with the Hillsborough County criminal court was held via videoconferencing service Zoom, which has been plagued by security issues throughout 2020.<\/p>\n<p>A notice of the hearing was available via public records, which included joining details and the session&#8217;s\u00a0identification number.\u00a0In a practice known as\u00a0&#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.itpro.co.uk\/marketing-comms\/communications\/355252\/zoom-bombing-sends-zoom-stuck-plummeting\" >Zoom bombing<\/a>&#8216;, unauthorised users are able to make use of this information in order to repeatedly join a call and interrupt the meeting taking place.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Less than a minute had passed before one attendee not party to the case interrupted a discussion between the attorney and the judge by streaming a live video of himself adjusting his face mask,&#8221; Brian Krebs wrote. &#8220;Just a few minutes later, someone began interjecting loud music.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"wysiwyg-widget-wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Well perhaps unsurprisingly the accused Twitter hacker-Bitcoin thief%u2019s first (virtual) hearing was shut down within 25 minutes due to relentless Zoombombing. (It ended a minute after this when someone screenshared a Porn Hub video.) <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/fGiceq4WfN\">pic.twitter.com\/fGiceq4WfN<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Jen Wieczner (@jenwieczner) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jenwieczner\/status\/1291006342832979973?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 5, 2020<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/div>\n<p>\nJude Christopher Nash, who presided over the hearing, was also &#8220;clearly&#8221; in charge of administering the video stream, according to Krebs. When the prosecution was interrupted by 15 seconds of the random conversation of an unauthorised guest, Nash reportedly told the participants he was removing the troublemakers as quickly as possible.<\/p>\n<p>What happened next was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.itpro.co.uk\/software\/video-conferencing\/355285\/who-has-banned-zoom-and-why\" >quite common at the beginning of the year<\/a>, when the first reports of Zoom bombing first surfaced. One of the unauthorised\u00a0guests streamed a graphic video clip from Pornhub for roughly 15 seconds. Judge Nash then abruptly terminated the meeting.<\/p>\n<p>Zoom has taken steps to prevent participants from hijacking meetings with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.itpro.co.uk\/security\/privacy\/355457\/how-to-improve-zoom-video-chat-privacy-and-security\" >settings<\/a> that hide its information and capabilities to eject unwanted participants, but those settings were not fully used in this case.<\/p>\n<p>The teenager\u00a0on trial is accused of illegally gaining\u00a0access\u00a0to some 130 Twitter accounts, targeting the likes of Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates.
