Microsoft has confirmed that it won’t fully reopen its offices until January 2021.<\/p>\n

The company, which first began to allow employees to work from home in March in light of the coronavirus pandemic,\u00a0told\u00a0The Verge<\/em><\/a>\u00a0that employees won’t return to its US offices until 19 January 2021 at the earliest.<\/p>\n

It’s currently planning a six-stage phased “hybrid” approach for the re-opening of its offices, the report states.<\/p>\n

\nStage six, which will see Microsoft’s offices returning to normal operations, will only be reached\u00a0when most restrictions imposed during the\u00a0COVID-19<\/a>\u00a0outbreak have been lifted and when health data suggests it\u2019s safe for employees to return.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn July 30th, we shared additional information on our hybrid workplace strategy with our global workforce and extended the option of working remotely through January 19, 2021 at the earliest in the US,\u201d a Microsoft spokesperson said in the statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe continue to review the situation on a local basis in each region\/country\/state where we work and will continue to adjust dates by country as needed.\u201d<\/p>\n

We’ve asked Microsoft whether this policy also extends to its employees in the UK\u00a0but have not yet received a response.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Microsoft isn\u2019t alone in its plans to not return to offices until 2021.\u00a0Google is planning to keep its employees\u00a0working remotely until July 2021<\/a>, Apple employees won\u2019t be returning to offices\u00a0until early next year\u00a0and\u00a0Twitter has said that staff can work remotely indefinitely<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

However,\u00a0Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella previously warned of the dangers of permanent remote working<\/a>. He said\u00a0that while\u00a0productivity\u00a0has risen for many of Microsoft\u2019s workers, companies\u00a0risk losing out on a connected workforce if long-term working from home is implemented, which could also impact things such as mentorship programs and team building activities. <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
