{"id":40810,"date":"2020-05-01T11:09:29","date_gmt":"2020-05-01T11:09:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/icloud.pe\/blog\/?guid=9274c5f516fe990a0bbe315bd03af4f2"},"modified":"2020-05-01T11:09:29","modified_gmt":"2020-05-01T11:09:29","slug":"aws-revenue-passes-10bn-for-the-first-time","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/icloud.pe\/blog\/aws-revenue-passes-10bn-for-the-first-time\/","title":{"rendered":"AWS revenue passes $10bn for the first time"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"field field-name-field-author field-type-node-reference field-label-hidden\"><br \/>\n      <span class=\"field-item even\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cloudpro.co.uk\/authors\/bobby-hellard\">Bobby Hellard<\/a><\/span><br \/>\n  <\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"field field-name-field-published-date field-type-datetime field-label-hidden\">\n<div class=\"field-items\">\n<div class=\"field-item even\"><span class=\"date-display-single\">1 May, 2020<\/span><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"short-teaser\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cloudpro.co.uk\/\" title=\"\" class=\"combined-link\"><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"field field-name-body\">\n<p><span data-cke-copybin-start=\"1\">\u200b<\/span>Amazon Web Services surpassed $10 billion for 2020 first-quarter\u00a0revenues, putting the tech giant on a run rate of more than $40 billion.<\/p>\n<p>The overall net income of Amazon was down by $1 billion compared to last year, according to its earnings report, but the company&#8217;s cloud computing arm contributed 13.5% to the overall revenues.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Analysts surveyed by FactSet had expected the cloud giant to hit $10.33 billion for the first quarter of 2020, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2020\/04\/30\/aws-earnings-q1-2020.html\" ><em>CNBC<\/em><\/a>, but it fell just short of that at $10.22 billion.<\/p>\n<p>According to analysts at Goldman Sachs, the sudden global switch to remote business operations has helped the company avoid big financial hits due to the coronavirus.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our partner checks continue to reflect the relative strength in the AWS platform, as incremental demand from customers to accelerate their migration into the cloud, provide full virtual-desktop coverage (AWS WorkSpaces), and other <a href=\"https:\/\/www.itpro.co.uk\/agile-working\/31887\/how-do-i-best-support-my-remote-workers\" >work from home and business continuity needs<\/a>, seem to have more than offset the disruption from longer sales cycles and delays in planned migrations as IT priorities have shifted in the current environment,&#8221; the analysts wrote, according to <em>CNBC<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Since it&#8217;s inception in 2006, AWS has become a powerful business of its own, with a growth rate of 33%, and despite slowing gradually, it&#8217;s still way out in front in the cloud market.<\/p>\n<p>Its closest challenger is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.itpro.co.uk\/cloud\/cloud-computing\/354478\/microsoft-has-an-edge-on-aws-according-to-it-executives\" >Microsoft<\/a>, which has shown quicker growth over the last year or so. On Thursday the company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.itpro.co.uk\/cloud\/microsoft-azure\/355491\/remote-working-boost-microsoft-revenues\" >reported\u00a059% growth for Azure<\/a>, beating Wall Street estimates with services like Teams and Xbox seeing surges in users.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Despite this, AWS is still ahead, largely due to it being the first big player in the market.
