{"id":39944,"date":"2019-11-15T14:51:16","date_gmt":"2019-11-15T14:51:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.cloudcomputing-news.net\/news\/2019\/nov\/15\/aws-files-paperwork-challenge-microsoft-jedi-deal-reports\/"},"modified":"2019-11-15T14:51:16","modified_gmt":"2019-11-15T14:51:16","slug":"aws-files-paperwork-to-challenge-microsoft-jedi-deal-reports","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/icloud.pe\/blog\/aws-files-paperwork-to-challenge-microsoft-jedi-deal-reports\/","title":{"rendered":"AWS files paperwork to challenge Microsoft JEDI deal \u2013 reports"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cloudcomputing-news.net\/media\/img\/news\/pentagon-at-sunset-picture-id529769841_2.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0cm; margin-right:0cm\">Amazon Web Services (AWS) has filed with the US Court of Federal Claims to protest the decision to award the $10 billion-rated JEDI government cloud computing contract to Microsoft, according to reports.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0cm; margin-right:0cm\">As first reported <a href=\"https:\/\/www.federaltimes.com\/it-networks\/cloud\/2019\/11\/14\/amazon-will-protest-pentagons-jedi-to-dod\/\" style=\"color:#0563c1; text-decoration:underline\">by the <em>Federal Times<\/em><\/a>, and later confirmed by AWS, chief executive Andy Jassy told employees of plans at an all-hands meeting on November 14, citing potential presidential interference making the contract process &lsquo;very difficult&rsquo; for government agencies.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0cm; margin-right:0cm\">Per the report, Jassy also claimed in the meeting that customers claim AWS is &lsquo;about 24 months ahead of Microsoft&rsquo; when it comes to functionality and maturity.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0cm; margin-right:0cm\">AWS already holds one key card with its continued <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cloudcomputing-news.net\/news\/2015\/feb\/27\/cia-claims-its-amazon-web-services-cloud-final-operational-capability\/\" style=\"color:#0563c1; text-decoration:underline\">running of the CIA&rsquo;s cloud operations<\/a>, having been at full operational capability since the start of 2015. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nextgov.com\/it-modernization\/2019\/04\/cia-considering-cloud-contract-worth-tens-billions\/156190\/\" style=\"color:#0563c1; text-decoration:underline\">According to <em>Nextgov<\/em><\/a>, the agency earmarked in April plans for more commercial cloud contracts at a cumulative value approaching $10bn.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0cm; margin-right:0cm\">Following the decision to award the contract to Microsoft last month, many industry pundits <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cloudcomputing-news.net\/news\/2019\/oct\/28\/microsoft-beats-aws-10bn-jedi-contract-defining-multi-cloud-and-analysing-administrative-influence\/\" style=\"color:#0563c1; text-decoration:underline\">continued to question<\/a> supposed executive interference, as well as the setup of the Department of Defense (DoD) with regard to single tenant or multi-cloud operations.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0cm; margin-right:0cm\">At the time, AWS said it was &lsquo;surprised&rsquo; about the conclusion and that it &lsquo;remain[ed] deeply committed to continuing to innovate for the new digital battlefield&rsquo;, but stopped short of confirming whether an appeal would be put in place.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0cm; margin-right:0cm\">&ldquo;AWS is uniquely experienced and qualified to provide the critical technology the US military needs, and remains committed to supporting the DoD&rsquo;s modernisation efforts,&rdquo; an AWS spokesperson said in a statement. &ldquo;We also believe it&rsquo;s critical for our country that the government and its elected leaders administer procurements objectively and in a manner that is free from political influence.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0cm; margin-right:0cm\">&ldquo;Numerous aspects of the JEDI evaluation process contained clear deficiencies, errors, and unmistakable bias &ndash; and it&rsquo;s important that these matters be examined and rectified,&rdquo; the spokesperson added.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0cm; margin-right:0cm\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cybersecuritycloudexpo.com\/\" style=\"color:#0563c1; text-decoration:underline\"><span style=\"color:blue\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"https:\/\/www.cybersecuritycloudexpo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/cyber-security-world-series-1.png\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cybersecuritycloudexpo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/cyber-security-world-series-1.png\" style=\"height:59px; width:272px\" \/><\/span><\/a><strong>Interested in hearing industry leaders discuss subjects like this and sharing their experiences and use-cases<\/strong>?
