anything I say here will probably be incorrect and (b) you can go\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/aws.amazon.com\/new\/reinvent\/\">straight to the source.<\/a>.. so I\u2019ll link where appropriate, and (c) there were so many new services that I\u2019m only going to hit on the big ones that I have better than passing knowledge of anyway\u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s.w.org\/images\/core\/emoji\/2.3\/72x72\/1f642.png\" alt=\"&#x1f642;\" class=\"wp-smiley\" style=\"height: 1em; max-height: 1em;\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/aws.amazon.com\/blogs\/aws\/launch-presenting-amazon-sumerian\/\">Amazon Sumerian\u00a0<\/a>\n<ul>\n<li>Create and run VR, AR, and 3D applications without requiring specialized programming or 3D expertise.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/aws.amazon.com\/blogs\/aws\/launch-announcing-alexa-for-business-using-amazon-alexas-voice-enabled-devices-for-workplaces\/\">Alexa for Business<\/a>\n<ul>\n<li>Start meetings, shared devices, use for conference calls, create private skills for your business\u2026 the sky\u2019s the limit with this &amp; max-height: 1em;\" \/><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>AWS Server Migration Service for Hyper-V<\/li>\n<li>Aurora\n<ul>\n<li>Multi-Master \u2013 scale write nodes across multiple AZs increasing scalability and availability<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/aws.amazon.com\/blogs\/aws\/in-the-works-amazon-aurora-serverless\/\">Serverless<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 A\u00a0new serverless mode that will save time and money by automatically adjusting database capacity to match application needs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>DynamoDB\n<ul>\n<li>On-Demand Backup<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/aws.amazon.com\/blogs\/aws\/new-for-amazon-dynamodb-global-tables-and-on-demand-backup\/\">Global Tables<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 Fully managed, multi-region, multi-master.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/aws.amazon.com\/about-aws\/whats-new\/2017\/11\/introducing-aws-cloud9\/\">AWS Cloud9<\/a>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a browser-based IDE where you can write\/run\/debug.\u00a0 As long as you have a web browser\u2026 you have access to your code to work and share.\u00a0 I haven\u2019t tried it yet but it sounds very cool.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>IoT\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/aws.amazon.com\/about-aws\/whats-new\/2017\/11\/aws-iot-device-defender-helps-you-manage-device-security\/\">AWS IoT Device Defender<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 managed service to secure IoT devices, something that was desperately needed!<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/aws.amazon.com\/blogs\/aws\/aws-iot-device-management\/\">AWS IoT Device Management<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 manage\/monitor\/organize\/onboard your fleet of IoT devices<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Machine Learning (or as I call it the Skynet initiative\u2026)\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/aws.amazon.com\/blogs\/aws\/deeplens\/\">DeepLens<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 Skynet eyeball, but I still WANT ONE<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/aws.amazon.com\/blogs\/aws\/amazon-comprehend-continuously-trained-natural-language-processing\/\">Comprehend<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 \u201c<em>analyzes text and tells you what it finds, starting with the language, from Afrikans to Yoruba, with 98 more in between. It can identify different types of entities (people, places, brands, products, and so forth), key phrases, sentiment (positive, negative, mixed, or neutral), and extract key phrases, all from text in English or Spanish. Finally, Comprehend\u2018s topic modeling service extracts topics from large sets of documents for analysis or topic-based grouping<\/em>.\u201d \u2026 not super creepy at all\u2026<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/aws.amazon.com\/blogs\/aws\/launch-welcoming-amazon-rekognition-video-service\/\">Rekognition Video<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 Rekognition, but for video now<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/aws.amazon.com\/about-aws\/whats-new\/2017\/11\/introducing-amazon-sagemaker\/\">SageMaker<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/aws.amazon.com\/blogs\/aws\/introducing-amazon-translate-real-time-text-language-translation\/\">Translate<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 a neural machine translation service that uses advanced machine learning technologies to provide fast language translation of text-based content<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/aws.amazon.com\/about-aws\/whats-new\/2017\/11\/introducing-amazon-transcribe-now-in-preview\/\">Transcribe<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 add speech to text capability to your apps!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There were many more announcements.\u00a0 If you want the whole comprehensive list please go here:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/aws.amazon.com\/new\/reinvent\/\">https:\/\/aws.amazon.com\/new\/reinvent\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Alternatively, if you are on the road I recommend listening to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/aws.amazon.com\/podcasts\/aws-podcast\/\">AWS Podcast<\/a>\u00a0&amp; the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/aws.amazon.com\/podcasts\/aws-techchat\/\">AWS Tech Chat<\/a>, both are excellent.<\/p>\n<h3>Something else to keep in mind:<\/h3>\n<p>I suggest you go to as many hackathons, chalk talks, hands-on labs, and workshops that you can. Basically, anything that isn\u2019t being recorded that you can watch later that you want to do, go do that. I met some really excellent people at the 1 hackathon that I attended. Next year I will try to hit at least 2. In terms of getting the most value out of my time, Hackathons, the Expo hall\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=arzeglkK8hE&amp;t=\">(here\u2019s my interview with Linux Academy!)<\/a>, and simply walking up and talking to people were my top 3.<\/p>\n<p><em>My hackathon team thanks to Calvin\u2019s 360 camera\u2026 which I am now ordering\u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s.w.org\/images\/core\/emoji\/2.3\/72x72\/1f642.png\" alt=\"&#x1f642;\" class=\"wp-smiley\" style=\"height: 1em; max-height: 1em;\" \/>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"ricoh-theta-spherical-image\" data-width=\"500\" data-height=\"375\">\n<p>Team Nakatomi in the house #reinvent #awsjamsessions &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/theta360.com\/s\/r2wDme9BG774xyzChMda8Do9s\"  rel=\"noopener\">Spherical Image &#8211; RICOH THETA<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/theta360.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>All in all, I had a great time. Sure the conference had some issues that needed tweaking, but I learned more, came away with more energy and excitement than I have from a conference in a long time.
