{"id":28631,"date":"2017-04-03T10:03:06","date_gmt":"2017-04-03T10:03:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.cloudcomputing-news.net\/news\/2017\/apr\/03\/oracle-secures-iso-27001-hipaa-and-soc-certification-its-cloud-portfolio\/"},"modified":"2017-04-03T10:03:06","modified_gmt":"2017-04-03T10:03:06","slug":"oracle-secures-iso-27001-hipaa-and-soc-certifications-for-its-cloud-portfolio","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/icloud.pe\/blog\/oracle-secures-iso-27001-hipaa-and-soc-certifications-for-its-cloud-portfolio\/","title":{"rendered":"Oracle secures ISO 27001, HIPAA and SOC certifications for its cloud portfolio"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cloudcomputing-news.net\/media\/img\/news\/iStock-518898859_NgsgJuI.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>Oracle has announced its public cloud services have achieved various security and compliance certifications, including ISO 27001, HIPAA, SOC1 and SOC2, in what the company describes as &lsquo;continued momentum&rsquo; for its products.<\/p>\n<p>The Redwood giant&rsquo;s platform as a service (PaaS) and infrastructure as a service (IaaS) has received Service Organisation Control (SOC) attestations across a variety of key services, while its Fusion software as a service (SaaS) is HIPAA-accredited and the ISO 27001 was awarded for &lsquo;the proper management and security of assets such as financial information, intellectual property, employee details or information entrusted to an organisation by third parties&rsquo;.<\/p>\n<p>The move puts Oracle alongside its various industry competitors; for example, Microsoft&rsquo;s SOC1 and SOC2 information can be found <a href=\"http:\/\/download.microsoft.com\/download\/C\/D\/1\/CD1D95BB-E009-47D2-9BD3-911D9F0C1DC0\/SOC_1_and_2_Compliance_Backgrounder.pdf\">here<\/a> &ndash; copies of the report are only available to customers who have signed an NDA &ndash; while ISO 27001 can be found <a href=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/trustcenter\/Compliance\/ISO-IEC-27001\">here<\/a>. The Oracle accreditations were administered by Schellman &amp; Co.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Oracle is continuously investing time and resources to meet our customers&rsquo; strict requirements across highly regulated industries,&rdquo; said Erika Voss, Oracle global senior director for public cloud compliance, risk and privacy in a statement. &ldquo;These new certifications not only validate the reliability and security features of the Oracle Cloud; they effectively make Oracle&rsquo;s solutions available to thousands of new customers in the healthcare and public sector industries.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Writing for this publication <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cloudcomputing-news.net\/news\/2016\/jul\/18\/iso-compliance-cloud-why-should-you-care-and-what-do-you-need-know\/\">last year<\/a>, Frank Krieger, director of compliance at cloud hosting provider iland, explained the benefits of ISO 27001. &ldquo;The business benefits of ISO 27001 certification are many,&rdquo; Krieger wrote. &ldquo;ISO 27001 is an effective way to reduce the risk of your organisation suffering a data breach, satisfies audit requirements and establishes trust both internally and externally that security controls are properly managed, providing customers with greater confidence in doing business with you.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Oracle&rsquo;s efforts to become the leader in public cloud, after a slow initial start, have been well documented. The company announced total cloud revenues, including IaaS, at $1.2bn in its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cloudcomputing-news.net\/news\/2017\/mar\/16\/oracle-announces-12bn-cloud-quarter-aws-and-salesforce-sights\/\">most recent quarter<\/a>, with CTO Larry Ellison telling analysts that its next-generation data centres have capabilities which potentially dwarf Amazon Web Services (AWS).
