{"id":25674,"date":"2016-10-20T09:28:14","date_gmt":"2016-10-20T09:28:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/greenpages.com\/?p=6890"},"modified":"2016-10-20T09:28:14","modified_gmt":"2016-10-20T09:28:14","slug":"vmworld-eu-live-from-barcelona-day-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/icloud.pe\/blog\/vmworld-eu-live-from-barcelona-day-2\/","title":{"rendered":"VMworld EU \u2013 Live from Barcelona Day 2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hello All!\u00a0Another day at VMworld Europe and more information on what\u2019s new in the VMware ecosystem.\u00a0 As their <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vmware.com\/company\/news\/releases\/vmw-newsfeed.VMware-Advances-Cross-Cloud-Architecture-with-New-Releases-of-vSphere,-Virtual-SAN-and-vRealize-Solutions-to-Drive-IT-and-Developer-Productivity.2104600.html\">recent press release<\/a> has made obvious, VMware has gone all in with making their ecosystem more developer friendly:\u00a0 REST-based APIs, Container Support, expanded PowerCLI to name a few.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>vSphere 6.5<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>VMware vCenter Server\u00ae Appliance \u2013 The new vCSA appliance has made many significant improvements.\u00a0 From the migration path to the ability to now have HA to the new scales of what it can manage.\u00a0 There are now fewer and fewer reasons to stay with the windows version of vCenter, though there are still some use cases.<\/p>\n<p>REST APIs \u2013 gives developers, DevOps, and Operations teams greater flexibility and automation options.<\/p>\n<p>VMware vSphere Client \u2013 Goodbye flash-based web client, hello HTML5!, VMware listened to customer feedback and created an interface that is more responsive and (hopefully) more resilient.<\/p>\n<p>VMware vSphere Integrated Containers\u2122 &#8211; by getting in on containerized applications in a fashion that is consumable by their existing VMware infrastructure\/employees, VMware is making it easier for their infrastructure and development teams to work together more cohesively.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>VSAN 6.5<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>iSCSI Support &#8211; will enable Virtual SAN storage to be presented as an iSCSI target for external physical workloads including clustered applications such as Microsoft SQL Server with Failover Clustering on a limited number of physical servers.<\/p>\n<p>Containers Support &#8211; Virtual SAN will provide persistent data layer for containerized applications via VMware vSphere Integrated Containers.<\/p>\n<p>Two-node Direct Connect \u2013 having an option for ROBO sites gives customers more flexibility &amp; options.<\/p>\n<p>Expanded PowerCLI \u2013 now that <a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/blog\/powershell-is-open-sourced-and-is-available-on-linux\/\">PowerShell is available Linux and Mac<\/a>, the new PowerCLI integrations will be even more useable.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>vRealize Automation 7.2<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>AWS, Microsoft Azure, and container support will give IT and DevOps teams greater flexibility in deploying cross-cloud, multi-tier applications.\u00a0 \u00a0In addition, Log Insight 4.0 and vRealize Operations 6.4 were announced and will with all of the aforementioned technologies.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the vBrownBag Tech Talks that I\u2019ve been helping to create have proved to be a great resource of exposure to new technical topics.\u00a0 We\u2019ve published the <a href=\"http:\/\/vbrownbag.com\/2016\/09\/vbrownbag-techtalks-at-vmworld-emea-3\/\">VMworld Europe vBrownBag tech talks here<\/a>.\u00a0 We recorded 21 videos!\u00a0 Next week I\u2019ll be doing the OpenStack Summit Tech Talks, so expect many more videos in the coming week!<\/p>\n<p>More to come!
