{"id":15599,"date":"2015-07-02T14:40:06","date_gmt":"2015-07-02T14:40:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.businesscloudnews.com\/?p=229131"},"modified":"2015-07-02T14:40:06","modified_gmt":"2015-07-02T14:40:06","slug":"ibm-nvidia-mellanox-launch-openpower-design-centre-to-target-big-data-apps","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/icloud.pe\/blog\/ibm-nvidia-mellanox-launch-openpower-design-centre-to-target-big-data-apps\/","title":{"rendered":"IBM, Nvidia, Mellanox launch OpenPower design centre to target big data apps"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_227761\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.businesscloudnews.com\/files\/2015\/06\/processor1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-227761\" src=\"http:\/\/www.businesscloudnews.com\/files\/2015\/06\/processor1-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"IBM has set up another OpenPower design centre in Europe to target big data and HPC\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">IBM has set up another OpenPower design centre in Europe to target big data and HPC<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>IBM, Nvidia and Mellanox are setting up another OpenPower design centre in Europe to target development of high performance computing (HPC) apps based on the open source Power architecture.<\/p>\n<p>The move will see technical experts from IBM, Nvidia and Mellanox jointly develop applications on OpenPower architecture which take advantage of the companies\u2019 respective technologies \u2013 specifically IBM Power CPUs, Nvidia\u2019s Tesla Accelerated Computing Platform and Mellanox InfiniBand networking solution.<\/p>\n<p>The companies said the move will both advance development of HPC software and create new opportunities for software developers to acquire HPC-related skills and experience.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur launch of this new centre reinforces IBM\u2019s commitment to open-source collaboration and is a next step in expanding the software and solution ecosystem around OpenPower,\u201d said Dave Turek, IBM\u2019s vice president of HPC Market Engagement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTeaming with Nvidia and Mellanox, the centre will allow us to leverage the strengths of each of our companies to extend innovation and bring higher value to our customers around the world,\u201d Turek said.<\/p>\n<p>The centre will be located in IBM\u2019s client centre in Montpellier, France and complement the J\u00fclich Supercomputing Center launched in November last year.<\/p>\n<p>IBM has been working with a broad range of stakeholders spanning the technology, research and government sectors on Power-based supercomputers in order to satisfy its big Power architecture ambitions.
