{"id":15528,"date":"2015-06-29T16:34:09","date_gmt":"2015-06-29T16:34:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.cloudcomputing-news.net\/news\/2015\/jun\/29\/55-of-enterprises-predict-cloud-computing-will-enable-new-business-models-in-three-years\/"},"modified":"2015-06-29T16:34:09","modified_gmt":"2015-06-29T16:34:09","slug":"55-of-enterprises-predict-cloud-computing-will-enable-new-business-models-in-three-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/icloud.pe\/blog\/55-of-enterprises-predict-cloud-computing-will-enable-new-business-models-in-three-years\/","title":{"rendered":"55% of enterprises predict cloud computing will enable new business models in three years"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>(c)iStock.com\/4774344sean<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In late 2014, Oxford Economics and <span class=\"forbes_entity\">SAP<\/span> collaborated on a survey of 200 senior <span class=\"forbes_entity\">business<\/span> and IT executives globally regarding the adoption and use of cloud technology:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>69% of enterprises expect to make moderate-to-heavy cloud investments over the next three years as they migrate core <span class=\"forbes_entity\">business<\/span> functions to the cloud.<\/li>\n<li>44% of enterprises are relying on <span class=\"forbes_entity\">cloud computing<\/span> to launch new <span class=\"forbes_entity\">business<\/span> models today, predicting this will increase to 55% in three years.<\/li>\n<li>32% are using <span class=\"forbes_entity\">cloud computing<\/span> to streamline their supply chains today. Senior executives predict this figure will increase to 56% in three years, a 24% increase.<\/li>\n<li>59% say they use cloud-based applications and platforms to better manage and analyze data today, reflecting the increasing importance of analytics and big data <span class=\"forbes_entity\">enterprise<\/span>-wide.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These and other insights are from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oxfordeconomics.com\/recent-releases\/the-cloud-grows-up\">The Cloud Grows Up<\/a>. You can find the study <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sap.com\/bin\/sapcom\/en_us\/downloadasset.2015-02-feb-25-23.the-cloud-grows-up-oxford-economics-and-sap-pdf.bypassReg.html\">here<\/a> (no opt-in).&nbsp; Oxford Economics&rsquo; analysts compared the latest survey with one completed in 2012 looking for leading indicators of cloud adoption in enterprises. They found many C- and VP-level executives are taking a more pragmatic, realistic view of what cloud technologies can contribute. Enterprises are moving beyond the hype of <span class=\"forbes_entity\">cloud computing<\/span>, putting in the hard work of launching new <span class=\"forbes_entity\">business<\/span> models while driving top-line revenue growth.<\/p>\n<p>Oxford Economics has made <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oxfordeconomics.com\/SAPcloudperformance\">two interactive infographics available from the study here<\/a>. The first details cloud adoption, and the second, on how enterprises see <span class=\"forbes_entity\">cloud computing<\/span> changing their <span class=\"forbes_entity\">business<\/span> models over the next three years.&nbsp; As cloud platforms and applications become a scalable, secure and for the most part reliable, once-elusive <span class=\"forbes_entity\">enterprise<\/span> goals and new <span class=\"forbes_entity\">business<\/span> models become attainable.<\/p>\n<p>Key takeaways from the study include the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Top&ndash;line growth (58%), collaboration among employees (58%), and supply chain (56%) are the three areas enterprises expect <span class=\"forbes_entity\">cloud computing<\/span> to impact most in three years.<\/strong> The greatest gains will be in the areas of supply chain (a 24% jump), collaboration among employees (20%) and increased agility and responsiveness to customers (17%). Additional concerns that increased include virus attacks (up 19%), and identity theft (up 16%).&nbsp; The following figure compares the top concerns enterprises have in the area of cloud security.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-8639 size-full\" style=\"vertical-align: middle;\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs-images.forbes.com\/louiscolumbus\/files\/2015\/06\/cloud-security.jpg\" alt=\"cloud security\" width=\"730\" height=\"413\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>31% of respondents say the cloud computing has had a transformative impact on their <span class=\"forbes_entity\">business<\/span>.<\/strong>&nbsp; 48%, nearly half, state that cloud computing has had a moderate impact on <span class=\"forbes_entity\">business<\/span> performance.
