{"id":14845,"date":"2015-05-28T14:13:20","date_gmt":"2015-05-28T14:13:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.businesscloudnews.com\/?p=226071"},"modified":"2015-05-28T14:13:20","modified_gmt":"2015-05-28T14:13:20","slug":"woodside-to-deploy-ibm-watson-to-improve-oil-gas-operations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/icloud.pe\/blog\/woodside-to-deploy-ibm-watson-to-improve-oil-gas-operations\/","title":{"rendered":"Woodside to deploy IBM Watson to improve oil &amp; gas operations"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_219742\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\" style=\"width: 310px\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.businesscloudnews.com\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/122\/files\/2015\/03\/oil-gas-rig.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-219742\" alt=\"Woodside will use Watson to improve employee training and oil &amp; gas operations\" src=\"http:\/\/www.businesscloudnews.com\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/122\/files\/2015\/03\/oil-gas-rig-300x199.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Woodside will use Watson to improve employee training and oil &amp; gas operations<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Australian oil and gas firm Woodside will deploy IBM\u2019s Watson-as-a-Service in order to improve operations and employee training, the companies announced this week.<\/p>\n<p>The energy firm plans to use the cloud-based cognitive compute service to help train engineers and operations specialists on fabricating and managing oil and gas infrastructure and facilities.<\/p>\n<p>The company said the cognitive advisory service it plans to use, \u2018Lessons Learned\u2019, will help improve operational processes and outcomes and include over thirty years of collective knowledge and experience operating oil and gas assets.<\/p>\n<p>Woodside Senior vice president strategy, science and technology Shaun Gregory said the move is a part of a broader strategy to use data more intelligently at the firm.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are bringing a new toolkit to the company in the form of evidence based predictive data science that will bring down costs and increase efficiencies across our organization,\u201d Gregory said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cData science, underpinned by an exponentially increasing volume and variety of data and the rapidly decreasing cost of computing, is likely to be a major disruptive technology in our industry over the next decade.
