{"id":13954,"date":"2015-04-28T09:40:02","date_gmt":"2015-04-28T09:40:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.businesscloudnews.com\/?p=223542"},"modified":"2015-04-28T09:40:02","modified_gmt":"2015-04-28T09:40:02","slug":"telefonica-unifying-cloud-and-comms-can-make-us-more-efficient","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/icloud.pe\/blog\/telefonica-unifying-cloud-and-comms-can-make-us-more-efficient\/","title":{"rendered":"Telef\u00f3nica: Unifying cloud and comms can make us more efficient"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_223552\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\" style=\"width: 310px\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.businesscloudnews.com\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/122\/files\/2015\/04\/Juan-Manuel-Moreno.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-223552 \" alt=\"Juan Manuel Moreno, global cloud director at Telef\u00f3nica\" src=\"http:\/\/www.businesscloudnews.com\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/122\/files\/2015\/04\/Juan-Manuel-Moreno-300x300.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Juan Manuel Moreno, global cloud director at Telef\u00f3nica<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Telef\u00f3nica is working to roll out a wide range of internally and customer-focused cloud services on both its own UNICA and OpenStack platforms, but the company\u2019s global cloud director Juan Manuel Moreno said the challenges of shifting such a large company aren\u2019t purely technical.<\/p>\n<p>Moreno, who was speaking at the Telco Cloud Forum in London Tuesday, said the company has been in the process of transforming its technology platforms and internal operations for some time.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s no secret telcos like Telef\u00f3nica have in recent years worked to strengthen their cloud capabilities in a bid to broaden their service portfolios and battle dwindling voice and data revenues \u2013 <a href=\"mailto:http:\/\/www.businesscloudnews.com\/2014\/08\/28\/telefonica-group-cio-using-cloud-to-regain-ground-lost-to-ott-players\/\">and to regain ground lost to more nimble OTT players<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are reliant on the full ecosystem of providers of technology\u2026 using technology partners to build these new services. But it\u2019s a challenge because these players are moving so quickly,\u201d Moreno said. \u201cOne of the biggest challenges in this space is that everyone and everything is moving so quickly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Much of what the company has done externally was intricately linked with its efforts to <a href=\"mailto:http:\/\/www.businesscloudnews.com\/2014\/04\/16\/carta-blanco-nfv-at-telefonica\/\">virtualize core elements of its own networks<\/a>, plans it originally set out in 2014, with the aim of virtualising 30 per cent of all new infrastructure by 2016.
