{"id":12501,"date":"2015-02-18T14:34:59","date_gmt":"2015-02-18T14:34:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.cloudcomputing-news.net\/news\/2015\/feb\/18\/devops-adoption-rises-and-hybrid-cloud-strategy-deepens-new-study\/"},"modified":"2015-02-18T14:34:59","modified_gmt":"2015-02-18T14:34:59","slug":"devops-adoption-rises-and-hybrid-cloud-strategy-deepens-in-new-study","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/icloud.pe\/blog\/devops-adoption-rises-and-hybrid-cloud-strategy-deepens-in-new-study\/","title":{"rendered":"DevOps adoption rises and hybrid cloud strategy deepens in new study"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>(c)iStock.com\/mattjeacock<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The RightScale 2015 State of the Cloud report has found DevOps adoption increase year on year in enterprises, as well as a continued push towards a hybrid cloud strategy.<\/p>\n<p>The survey, of 930 respondents, found 82% of enterprises want a multi-cloud strategy; 55% want to pursue hybrid cloud, compared to 13% multiple public cloud and 14% multiple private. This is up from 74% and 48% respectively the previous year. &ldquo;Hybrid cloud is (even more) the strategy of choice for enterprises,&rdquo; the company notes.<\/p>\n<p>Yet the most interesting stats relate to vendor usage. DevOps adoption hit two thirds (66%) in 2015, compared to 62% in 2014, with Chef the most popular according to 28% of respondents. Puppet (24%) and Docker (13%) comprised the top three, yet interestingly significantly more respondents said they would utilise Docker (35%) in the future.<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, Amazon Web Services (AWS) had by far the most usage according to those polled. 57% said they were currently running apps on AWS, compared with Microsoft Azure IaaS (12%), Rackspace (11%), Azure PaaS (9%), Google App Engine (8%), and Google IaaS (8%).<\/p>\n<p>Other interesting stats from the study included:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>62% of enterprise respondents say central IT makes more than half of cloud purchasing decisions<\/li>\n<li>Greater scalability (57%) remains the key benefit of the cloud, alongside faster access to infrastructure (57%) and higher availability (51%)<\/li>\n<li>93% of the 930 respondents are using cloud in some capacity, with 58% opting for both public and private, 30% public only, and 5% private only<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The move towards increased DevOps usage is not a hugely surprising one. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cloudcomputing-news.net\/news\/2014\/nov\/17\/jared-wray-cto-centurylink-change-telcos-they-move-cloud\/\">When <em>CloudTech<\/em> spoke with Jared Wray<\/a>, CTO of CenturyLink Cloud in November, he enthused about the Cloud Development Centre, which took DevOps principles and aimed to make a large telco move more effectively.<\/p>\n<p>Docker&rsquo;s usage is also an interesting finding; a variety of major cloud vendors, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cloudcomputing-news.net\/news\/2014\/oct\/17\/microsoft-announces-partnership-docker-container-platforms\/\">such as Google, Amazon and Microsoft<\/a>, are already partnering with the tool, yet <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cloudcomputing-news.net\/news\/2014\/nov\/27\/docker-vulnerability-exposed-users-urged-upgrade-cloud-security\/\">a major vulnerability located in November<\/a> might put users off deploying for now.<\/p>\n<p>You can find details of the full report <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rightscale.com\/lp\/2015-state-of-the-cloud-report?campaign=701700000012UP1\">here.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>(c)iStock.com\/mattjeacock<br \/>\nThe RightScale 2015 State of the Cloud report has found DevOps adoption increase year on year in enterprises, as well as a continued push towards a hybrid cloud strategy.<br \/>\nThe survey, of 930 respondents, found 82% of enterprise&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":50,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-12501","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/icloud.pe\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/12501","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/icloud.pe\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/icloud.pe\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/icloud.pe\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/50"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/icloud.pe\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=12501"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/icloud.pe\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/12501\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/icloud.pe\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=12501"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/icloud.pe\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=12501"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/icloud.pe\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=12501"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
